5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!! RIORDAN DOES IT AGAIN!!!   July 7, 2006

I bought Lightning Thief on a whim from a school book fair (I have always been a mythology lover so it looked intriguing). What an understatement!!! I started to read this book and couldn't put it down. It left me wanting more and voila... Sea of Monsters was available. I got the book immediately and read it just as fast as the first. I keep checking online, waiting for the next book.br /br /What was great was that before I started reading this book, I brushed up on my Greek mythological creatures and it just made the book even more fun to read.br /br /This is a must for all ages!!!

5 out of 5 stars Lightning DOES strike twice   June 26, 2006

Rick Riordan comes through again, and this follow up to The Lightning Thief is just as entertaining, informative and action-packed as the first book. This time Percy (son of Poseidon) is at school in New York when things start to go downhill fast, beginning with some bad dreams about his friend Grover the satyr, followed by an attack by cannibalistic dodge ball players.br /br /When Annabeth (daughter of Athena) arrives on the scene with more bad news, Percy has to embark on another quest, this time unsanctioned, to save Camp Half-Blood, which is vulnerable to attack since its defenses have been breached. He also has to save Grover, who's found himself in an inter-species entanglement in which he doesn't quite see eyes to eye with his suitor.br /br /Accompanying them is Percy's class mate Tyson, a street kid who counts Percy as his only friend, but who is much, much more than he seems. The three travel to the treacherous Sea of Monsters in the face of insurmountable odds to capture the Golden Fleece, which hopefully can counteract the poison and restore the magical protection of the Camp.br /br /Steeped in Greek mythology, yet written for young readers, this one is highly recommended for developing the imagination with its combination of thrilling adventure and legend.br /br /br /Amanda Richards, June 25, 2006br /br /

5 out of 5 stars Monster review   June 9, 2006

This is the story of Percy Jackson, the son of the Greek god Poseidon. It is the sequel to the award winning book the Lightning Thief. Even though it is more than 300 page, I read it in less than a day. That's how good it is.It taught me about Greek culture and different myths.br /br /The book The Sea of Monsters teaches about Greek culture. It taught about how the Greeks used to dress and what they did. It also taught about what they believed in, the Greek godsbr /br /The book taught me about the different gods. Like what they ruled over and what their life story was( aka myths about them) When we learned about the Greeks in class, I was able to use what I had learned from the book. Rick Riordan used Greek myths in his story line which made it fun if you already knew the story. You could find where the author changed things and how he kept them the same All he had to do was change the setting and do a little tweaking and he had a good portion of his book. He made a lot of the book like The Odyssey, which is a really good book if you haven't read it. br /br /The Sea of Monsters is a hilarious book that I think everyone should read. It taught me about the Greek culture and about different myths. If I were to rate this I would give it a 10!
