1 out of 5 stars Quattro does not work as advertised   January 5, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

The claims of smooth integration with Excel are inflated. The first Excel file I attempted to open caused Quattro to crash. Rebooted and tried again, same result. Tried to open a tab-delimited text file, crashed Quattro as well.br /br /Tried to run quattro in both Excel mode and normal quattro mode, didn't make a difference, the excel file crashed quattro in either case. There was nothing special about the excel file (no VBA code, no formulas, etc.). It was a basic file with inventory data (name, quantity, SKU, etc.)br /br /I have not been able to open a single non-Quattro document in Quattro. Don't waste your money if you are looking to use this with Excel files, CSV or text documents.br /br /Online help isn't helpful. They don't seem to acknowledge the problem online (would clearly hinder efforts to sell if this appeared on their support site). So you are left to relying on their tech support which I have not been able to get a response from.

1 out of 5 stars You've got to be kidding   December 21, 2007

Why would Corel advertise the ability to import Word documents when it is obviously untrue? Not a single Word 2003 document could be imported. What a disappointment! I still can't get past that to the rest of the Suite. I switched to Star office.

2 out of 5 stars False Advertising   November 18, 2007

I have used WordPerfect since DOS ruled the computer Kingdom, and I still prefer it to MS Word, but nothing irritates me more than lying. This seems to be the habit with every WordPerfect upgrade in recent memory. Corel claims that WordPerfect is compatible with Microsoft Office, but it's not. It can't open Microsoft Word's standardized .DOCX file format, making it useless as far as compatibility goes. Corel is working on a Beta, a new version that can open this and other competing file formats, but they could much more easily and quickly provide an XML converter for X3. (Third party software, at a price, already provides this option.)br /br /But Corel doesn't want to provide its users this option because there's no money in it. There *is* money in another upgrade though, so save your money. Corel wants it. br /br /Fortunately, Novell provides a version of OpenOffice that *is* compatible with MS Office -- and it's free.br /br /As for PDF files, WordPerfect's implementation isn't dependable. Their claims for this feature are overblown.br /br /My overall impression of WordPerfect is as follows: br /br /It has been owned by various companies since being eclipsed by MS Word. It's market share is probably in the single digits. The various companies that have owned WP develop the software half-heartedly and see it more as a way to cynically troll for a little extra money. Their upgrades are sloppy and bug prone, being meant for money, not to produce a solid product. How sad. WordPerfect *can* and *should be* a much better option than MS Word.br /br /I find myself using Open Office more and more frequently.br /br /

5 out of 5 stars MS Word/Office - WordPerfect/Office X3   August 3, 2007

I suspect most reviewers of this product are long-time devotees to WordPerfect. My experience is of having grown up with MS Word/Office - and the attendant bloat, the forcing to do things Microsoft's way, etc. I purchased the full suite from an Amazon reseller - sealed box, latest edition - for $30.00. Had I purchased X3 at the full price, I would still be delighted with where I am now. I once again am enjoying working in the word processing program. I have, on occasion, had to translate some documents for friends who don't know how to open a wp document in Word, but otherwise, I have not yet encountered a single problem. I am much, much happier working with WordPerfect and Office X3 than I ever was toiling under the bulk and bad guesses and forcing - so familiar to those who are toiling under Word. I did purchase Using WordPerfect Office X3 (Cue)at the same time I acquired WordPerfect, and have found this to be quite helpful in making the transition to a delightful word processor/office suite. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars I've always been a Word Perfect fan   July 9, 2007

I've used Word Perfect for twenty years or more, going all the way back to the DOS days. I prefer it to Word, and besides, it's a lot cheaper. The X3 version is great and works fine with Vista.
