4 out of 5 stars great subject   April 16, 2008

THE GOOD: I like that the narration doesn't leave you feeling overwhelmed but gives you a sense of hope, that you are making a difference in people's lives. I also like that the patterns are simple and easy to understand. It's a nice change of pace from the self-indulgent garment patterns the knitting scene has been inundated with.br /br /THE BAD: I don't want to discredit a book with good intentions based on aesthetics, but I'm surprised no one mentioned that this book absolutely REEKS. I first noticed the smell when flipping through a copy at the bookstore. I sniffed some more, and decided it was a fluke. Then I received my copy from amazon and it also smelled bad. I don't know if it's the type of paper it was printed on or what, but I find it very distracting.

5 out of 5 stars What a great idea   March 24, 2008
I purchased this book for my mom, and am now going to order one for myself. What a wonderful idea. It's filled with simple, tasteful projects to knit for charity and other organizations. It hooks you up to all of these organizations and makes it so easy to knit the right thing out of the right fiber for each particular charity. Lots of heartwarming stories, too. Thanks for such a generous book!

5 out of 5 stars Knitting for Peace. Gentle arts to help the earth heal   March 24, 2008
The perfect collection of charitable patterns to knit and give. This book connects you to charities and their patterns, all in one handy spot. This collection makes it easy to do a little something for others.br /The one thing I did not see is; bandages, patterns for bandages to make out of cotton, that may be washed and reused. There may be more charity patterns not in the book, it is difficult to know them all; there are so many worthwhile causes. br /This is a must have for any knitter, who enjoys making lovely gifts for those who need them.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent, even for a beginner knitter   February 17, 2008

I love this book. The patterns are easy enough for a beginner knitter to follow. While I did supplement with another book, Visual Quick Tips Knitting, to see illustrations of some stitches, I think this book is a treasure. It not only offers up some patterns, you can learn how to find a little Peace in the world as well. Buy this book, read it, appreciate the quotations, and knit!

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Title   January 28, 2008
I love this book!! What a wonderful resource for the knitter who wants to give to others in a meaningful way! Not only do you get a history behind each project, but resources for contributing your finished project. The pattern instructions are attractive and easy to follow...even for a non-expert. However, I found it annoying that the instructions are almost impossible to photocopy (I find it easier to copy a pattern, rather than work from the book itself). Bottom line: not only will you find joy for youself in this book, but joy for others out in this wide world of ours.
