5 out of 5 stars Read this book   February 16, 2008

I've been miserable over a breakup for four months - not sleeping, eating, obsessing, etc... I read this book over a two day period, and have not been this clear headed since before the breakup "started." If you are someone who is having trouble letting go, especially of an abusive relationship, buy this book today. The ideas in it did more for me in 48 hours than 4 months of friends and family, counseling, and anti-depressants did. I've never reviewed before, but I feel compelled to share this with those of you out there who are going through the pain of a "heartbreak" - its horrible. Halpern's analysis and insight will give you a jumping off point to realize that all is not lost, and that you will be happy again, and probably happier.

5 out of 5 stars dated but good   February 2, 2008
A bit too much like a book from an academic but If you are love addicted and need help besides counseling and a support group this book may be helpful to you as well as other books on ending codependency. br /See authors like Robin Norwood etc.br /br /

5 out of 5 stars Saved me from demise!!!   November 11, 2007

I had been involved in an addictive relationship for over 3 years and had been through numerous break-ups with this person, only to see him and fall right back into it all over again. I felt so much pain and heartache both with him and without him. This book allowed me to discover once and for all that this relationship was always leaving me feeling out of control and like my life was going down the tubes! I am thankful for this book for it woke me up to the truth and afforded me great insight into myself and why I was choosing this man to be in relationship with. I really have benefited from this book along with psychotherapy. I have been saved!!!

5 out of 5 stars Finally some relief   October 14, 2007

After being deeply involved with a married man for over 5 years, I recently ended the relationship, finally accepting that promises and plans to end his marriage were not to be. I was nearly paralyzed with grief and despair and read a bevy of break-up self help books which offered "advice" of no real substance... until "How To Break Your Addiction To A Person". This book delves into the "how" and "why" we get into, stay in and have great difficulty ending relationships we know are no good for us. Highly recommend this gem of a book if you're going thru a break up or can't understand why healthy relationships seem out of your grasp.

5 out of 5 stars Turning point in my life. It really works.   October 14, 2007

How to Break Your Addiction to a Person: When and Why Love Doesn't Work, and What to Do About Itbr /br /After reading this book, I have my 1st major turning point after my breakup since 4 months ago. I am not able to cut off my communication with my ex and emotion is like a roller coaster. I realised I am addicted to him and not able to break through. When I searched for help via the web, I found this book. I never thought this will help me so much. I have read a few other books to help me through this griefing period, but this is the one that help me to breakthrough. I recommended to all who are suffering from the breakup and not able to move on.
