1 out of 5 stars Don't read this if you have a brain.   December 5, 2008
No, really. Don't read this if you have a brain. Else it'll hurt later. (That's what happened to me! Such a headache after reading this drivel.) These books are terrible. I'm not sure why they are being compared to Harry Potter or, y'know, any other book that has a real plot and characters who have some depth. br /br /Bella is the biggest Mary-Sue I have ever seen. No fanfiction I have read compares to the horror of Bella Swan. She has absolutely no personality herself. She says she's shy but doesn't display the trait ever. She's snotty and gosh, just doesn't understand why five guys want her. After she hooks up with Edward, it's even worse because then her entire world revolves around him. Why on earth would teenage girls look up to this character? She's worthless. She has no goals, no personality, no depth and she's crazy. br /br /Edward is practically perfect and irritatingly whiny. He's also obsessive and borderline stalker. It's seriously unhealthy. No relationship in the world--no real guy acts like that. Yes, I understand that he's a vampire but Meyer is raising some little girl's hope, only to brutally crush it with the real world. br /br /It would be different if Edward's sickening dazzle-factor actually had some downsides but he doesn't. He's perfect and angsty and needy and annoying. br /br /These books are all about physical beauty. Shallow vanity. br /br /If you are contemplating reading these books please, do yourself a favor, and run the other way. They're kind of like watching a car accident. You look at it because it's horrible and you can't fathom why it's so popular. br /br /Or if you can't resist, borrow them. Don't buy it and support it. Go find a good book.

5 out of 5 stars True love blossoms between an accident-prone human and a stubborn gorgeous vampire   December 4, 2008

Summed up in one sentence Twilight is a love story between a vampire (Edward Cullen) and a human (Bella Swan). br /br /Bella Swan moves to Forks, WA to live with her father Charlie. There she meets Edward (one of the five gorgeous Cullen siblings) whom try as he might can't seem to stay away from Bella. Her blood is the sweetest most tempting thing Edward has ever smelled. She is also the most intriguing human Edward has ever met. He can't read her mind and that frustrates him and fascinates him at the same time. When Bella's life is threatened by James (a tracker vampire who has his sights set on Bella), Edward and the rest of the Cullens rally to protect her. br /br /The characters are believable and from the first page you begin a personal relationship that only a reader and characters can develop. Obiviously the main characters of Bella and Edward are fleshed out more, but the lesser important characters are still given their due. I would have liked more Alice and Jasper in this book, but that isn't a flaw in the book's design. It's my preference for these two vampires. br /br /While it's true that some of the descriptive words chosen do tend to get annoyingly repetitive Twilight is an absolute delight to read and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves that I-can't-wait-to-find-out-what-happens-next feeling.

5 out of 5 stars best mythical saga I've read   December 4, 2008

The author of this book does an amazing job portraying a real life very believable story about mythical "monsters" By the time I finished just the first book of this saga, I was so entrigued. I think it is meant for young/teenage girl readers, but I am 23 and found it to be one of the most captivating stories I have ever read.

5 out of 5 stars Fiction sending Messages...Get Real!!   December 4, 2008

I unlike some of the critics here have read the entire series. The series is excellent.br /br /What bothers me about some of the critics on here is that they seem to forget that this is FICTION! There is a difference between NON FICTION AND FICTION. If you do not understand the difference between the two then you can't really teach YOUR children that the things seen or done in BOOKS, T.V. etc.... are not to be repeated in REAL i.e non-fiction, life.br /br /Twilight is an amazing piece of FICTION. Adult and young adult alike can enjoy the twist on vampires. I know I did.

5 out of 5 stars A real page-turner   December 4, 2008

Since I am writing my own paranormal romance, I read a lot of books in this genre. Aside from the Black Dagger Brotherhood novels, this is the best paranormal romance I've read in...well...forever. It's soooo refreshing to read about the development of the romance rather than the wham-bam (and I think you all know what I mean about the "wham-bam", right?) that a lot of paranormal romances engage in (too early in the plot, I might add). br /br /Twilight is such an engaging read, making you feel like the world that is being written about actually exists...and before you're halfway through the book, you WANT this world to exist. br /br /The Twilight saga is a modern-day Romeo Juliet, with a paranormal twist. And I love the way the author created her own vampire image and stuck with it. These vampires are definitely not the vampires of Dracula or of horror movies and lore. The old stereotypes of holy water and garlic and stakes in the heart are irrelevent. These are 21st Century vampires, boys and girls - a whole new breed. And it's wonderful!br /br /
