Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Is scientific positivism, long the reigning paradigm for research in the social sciences, the `best way' to conduct social research? This is the central question examined in BThe Paradigm Dialog/B. Recently three key challenges have appeared - positivism, critical theory and constructivism. All three offer researchers new methodological approaches and all three present fundamental questions that must be addressed. Can research be conducted between paradigms? Are they equally useful in answering questions of applied research? What constitutes good or ethical research in each? These and other significant questions are examined by a multidisciplinary group of leading figures in qualitative research.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Should be book #1 if you're planning social science research   June 9, 2001
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

An extremely helpful overview of the terrain of social science research. Even if you're wed to a particular culture of inquiry or methodology, start here. Also recommended is Mindful Inquiry in Social Research by Shapiro and Bentz. Armed with both, you'll be at a great starting place.
