4 out of 5 stars Statistics Workbook for Dummies   September 15, 2008

Purchased for my husband to use for class so can't personally review but believe he has found this useful.

3 out of 5 stars Workbook Review   August 8, 2008
Signed up for an Intro to Statistics class and was so anxious that I purchased this workbook as a supplement. I did not find the book helpful at all. The few occasions I tried to find relevant problems to assist my understanding of the class topics were disappointing. I did get an A in the class, but it was not because of any help gleaned from the book.

5 out of 5 stars Statistics can be fun!   May 31, 2008

I purchased this book in order to help my daughter (who has an unrealistic impression of my math skills)with her university class. It was a way of review for me that I found not only easier than most books on the subject to understand, but cleverly funny as well. A thumbs up for this purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Everyday Examples   May 2, 2008

I like the fact that the Statistics Workbook for Dummies uses real life examples for their exercises and they explain statistics in simple terms.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Practical   December 26, 2007
9 out of 10 found this review helpful

As someone who teaches Statistics to Information Technology professionals I am always looking for new ways of explaining basic Statistical ideas to "newcomers". This book is excellent for those learners who find it easier to learn through examples and practice than just by reading theory. It is true that one would need another book for comprehensive explanations, however this book is one of the best resources available for "hands-on" practice. Although other reviewers have covered the book's contents I would like to focus on Chapter 19, Ten Ways to Spot Common Statistical Mistakes, that covers the following topics:br /br /- Scrutinizing Graphs br /- Searching for and Specifying Biasbr /- Marking the Margin of Errorbr /- Scanning for Sample Sizebr /- Studying Sample Selection (Gotta Be Random)br /- Checking for Confounding Variablesbr /- Considering Correlationbr /- Doing the Mathbr /- Detecting Selective Reportingbr /- Avoiding the Anecdotebr /br /I believe every introductory Statistics book should contain a similar section.br /This book is also a great help for those who already know basic Statistics and need a quick, practical review.
