5 out of 5 stars Nice Christmas present   December 27, 2008

4 out of 5 stars Precious   December 10, 2008

I'm not a die-hard Marvel fans by any means, but I've read my share of their comics when I was younger.br /Usually, I've always sticked to mini-series or Graphic novels, well, any story that would begin and end in itself, without me having to follow its conclusions on a lot of other books.br /In doing so, I develeloped great admiration for the writers and artists of these comics. Men like John Buscema, Neil Adams, George Perez, Gerry Conway, David Michelinie, Roy Thomas, John Byrne, Jim Starlin... well, you got the picture.br /br /So, an encyclopedia like this suits me perfectly. There are tons of drawings (the thing I most like) and enough information for someone like me who is not a scholar on the Marvel Universe, and all of that gorgeously packed. This book sits next to the DC Ecncyclopedia which I also bought.br /br /

5 out of 5 stars Spans the Generations of Marvel Characters   November 26, 2008

A great gift for Marvel readers and a coffee table book for Marvel Families. This book brings back memories and provides helpful chronology. In the sixties, Iron Man was yellow, the X-Men were blue and yellow, and Daredevil was black and yellow. Marvel sure liked yellow.

2 out of 5 stars Very poor, cheesy and generic new age animation   November 3, 2008
0 out of 3 found this review helpful

While this book is somewhat entertaining to flip through, the new style of generic artwork and animation ruins the experience. Gone are the old type illustrations and artwork of these characters from the original artists of the 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's. They have all been replaced by crappy updated "ultimate" style animations and CHEESY artwork that really is sub-standard in appearance. Most of these characters drawings are very simplistic in their quality and presentation. It is very difficult for old Marvel fans like me to tolerate these low quality renditions. Just not acceptable. Skip it unless you must have it.
