5 out of 5 stars Classic   September 30, 2008

Between this and "Urban Dictionary: Fularious Street Slang Defined", these snapshots of popular culture and webculture are, even if debatable on certain entries, key in understanding the way people think nowadays. They may seem irrelevant now, but even in a few decades, they will provide a major source for linguistic research.

This is a great book for those who have no idea what is being said on MTV, VH1, or BET! I can now decode hip-hop songs and rather than just going along with what is being said (because I had no clue what "skeet-skeet" meant), I can now decide for myself whether it is something I want to support..

br /While I enjoyed the previous edition of this idea, this book left me feeling a little cheated and a bit let down. It seems as if this publisher is now stretching thin a once good idea.br /br /Sure, there are more than enough unusual and interesting entries to give you a few nights worth of guffaws, but overall, you can get more from just visiting the website or signing up for their 'word of the day'.br /br /I usually purchase a lot of pop-culture dictionaries and reference books, but this isn't one of the better ones by a long shot.br /br /Try these if you're so inclined:br /br /1. McGraw-Hill's Dictionary of American Slang and Colloquial Expressionsbr /br /2. Knickers in a Twist: A Dictionary of British Slangbr /br /3. From Grill to Dome: A Dictionary of African American Slang Words and Phrasesbr /br /4. The Oxford Dictionary of Idiomsbr /br /5. Talk the Talk: The Slang of 65 American Subculturesbr /br /6. The Devil's Dictionarybr /br /7. The Devil's Dictionaries: The Best of the Devil's Dictionary and the American Heretic's Dictionarybr /br /

Gave this book to my sister for Christmas and we spent the rest of the night cracking up over it.
