Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
div pspanIntended as a guide to the terms and phrases that partially shape the nature, purpose, logic, meaning, and methods of the practices called qualitative inquiry, this new edition has 110 additional new terms as well as new key references for every entry. These key references help acquaint readers with the complexity of the issues behind the concepts examined in the book. In addition, most of the entries have been expanded and clarified to enhance readers#x2019; comprehension of the concepts. Taken in their entirety, the entries are less a technical guide to qualitative methods and more of a guide to concepts and theoretical orientations in qualitative studies. Students and researchers will find this book a marvelous vessel for navigating the various streams of qualitative studies and as a starting point for launching their own investigations into methodological issues. /span/p/div

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource!   August 15, 2008
This book covers a wide array of issues related to qualitative research, and does so in a thorough, illuminating, and very readable way. Schwandt is a true scholar, and one of the most sophisticated thinkers on current conceptual and methodological issues in social inquiry. I have used this book numerous times to broaden and clarify my own understanding of these issues. Schwnadt's dictionary is a MUST for anyone who wants to understand qualitative research in a deep and clear-headed way.

5 out of 5 stars Great book, but has been updated under new title   May 16, 2007
I had the opportunity to study with Dr. Schwandt, and this book is as good as his classes were. This has been an indispensible guide to the complex muddle that is qualitative research. An updated volume has been released, however, under the title The Sage Dictionary of Qualitative Inquiry, and that is the one you want. Actually, truth be told, I keep all three editions on hand. That said, if you do not have any edition yet, the third will more than suffice.
