This woman has a Ph.D? For shame! Has she never heard of critical pedagogy? Has she ever read even a single issue of "Rethinking Education"? How about a book of critical history? It is shameful to think that present and future public school educators are being infected with this claptrap. Excellent resource September 30, 2009 C. A "Must Read" for Anyone Working With Children or Adults Who Live at the Poverty Income Level September 3, 2009 Charles F. Drake (Milwaukee, WI) This book is a "must read" for anyone working with adults or children who live at or below the poverty income level. It's very difficult for middle and upper income people to understand why those at the poverty level seem to act in self-defeating ways. This book gives an understanding of this behavior and details effective teaching methods to use when working with low income students or workers. The ideas in this book will be valuable to school teachers and/or supervisors in a work environment. Understanding Poverty August 5, 2009 Goldenline (USA) This book provides "a framework" of how to work with low income students. Although it is lacking framework, this book is valuable. It is valuable if the educator who is reading it does not have knowledge of poverty or how it works. Many people take very simple things for granted. Therefore, understanding why a child cannot internalize a concept is essential to help this child to succeed. The more an educator knows about how to overcome this problem, the better his or her students will learn. Even though this book may need a deeper framework concept to educate the reader on how to effectively work with poverty, it provides valuable information on this matter. But you should not expect to get all the answers in order to understand poverty in this book. This work seems to be a dissertation that became a book. Eye opener! July 10, 2009 Moe If you are a teacher or work with children, you should read this informative book. The author gives a deep insight into our social environment in this 21st Century.
