Amazon.com Product Description
Sporting an ultra-thin clamshell design--so thin, in fact, that they had to subtract a vowel from the name--the Samsung SLM (aka, A747) can take advantage of ATT's wealth of rich multimedia services, including music downloads, streaming Cellular Video, and Video Share between phones. The SLM is also the first ATT device to support Napster music purchases over the air (OTA) so you can easily purchase and download music directly to your phone rather than waiting to transfer from your PC. Exuding sophisticated style, the SLM is also packed with loads of must-have phone features, including Bluetooth connectivity for headsets and stereo music streaming, a 2.0-megapixel camera/camcorder, mobile email and instant messaging, and MicroSD memory expansion. p table align=left width=150 cellpadding=10 trtdimg src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail-page/samsung-SLM-open.jpg" border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibIn addition to downloading from ATT Mobile Music, you can make over-the-air purchases from Napster on the Samsung SLM./b/i/small/td/tr /table table align=right width=200 cellpadding=10 trtdimg src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail-page/samsung-SLM-brown.jpg" border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibA portable personal assistant as well as cell phone, the SLM includes a full range of personal organization applications and access to ATT Mobile Banking./b/i/small/td/tr /table bATT Service Options/bbr This ATT phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via ATT's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The ATT 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900 MHz network (also known as WCDMA), making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services with speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. It also gives ATT the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. p In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the ATT EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where ATT offers international data roaming. p With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access ATT's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) p It's packed with multimedia streaming and download capabilities. ATT's Cellular Video (CV) service features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to ATT Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster subscription music service, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing ATT's Internet, video, and music services.) p The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. ATT's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. p bMobile Banking from ATT/bbr The SLM is one of the first phones pre-loaded with ATT's Mobile Banking application, which is compatible with accounts from banks including Wachovia, SunTrust, Synovus, and BancorpSouth. Mobile Banking from ATT affords you the flexibility to stay on top of your banking needs while you're on the move, enabling you to check your account balance, securely transfer funds between your eligible accounts, view and pay bills, and review your transaction history. ATT customers pay no additional fee to access mobile banking and, because the application resides on the handset, the service is optimized to reduce the number of new page views necessary to complete a transaction. Minimal data usage charges apply and vary based on individual use. p bPhone Features/bbr Weighing just 3.17 ounces and measuring about one-half of an inch thick, the SLM features a 96 x 96-pixel, 65K color external screen and a 176 x 220-pixel, 262K TFT internal color screen. The 50 MB internal memory (shared with the MP3 player and camera) can store up to 1000 contact entries, with each entry supporting 40 digits and 16 characters. It also features eight one-touch dialing numbers for quick access to your most frequently dialed pals, and a view of the last 30 incoming/outgoing/missed calls. The phone is compatible with 64-note polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, and it also provides a vibration alert for when you need to keep things quiet. p You can load up your MP3 files on optional MicroSD cards (up to 4 GB in size) via a USB connection from your PC, or download music from ATT Mobile Music. If you have a Napster membership, you can easily search its music catalog of 5 million songs, preview samples of each song, and purchase and download songs directly to the SLM in less than a minute. The SLM also supports the full ATT Mobile Music suite of services, including XM Radio Mobile, Pandora, MusicID song-recognition service, and VIP access--a mobile fan club and music-discovery service. p This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, object push, file transfer, audio/video remote control, and basic printing. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. Send contacts, calendar events, and pictures/videos/voice memos wirelessly. p The 2.0-megapixel camera can capture still images in four resolution settings (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels), and it features a multi-shot mode (up to 9 images), a self-timer, and brightness controls. 5 out of 5 stars great phone, easy to use   November 2, 2008
I wish I had selected this one for myself. The A747 has a bigger screen than the A737 (comparing both phones my kids have), and has clear menus. The central control area lets your finger just slide easily around to all the compass points to hit your shortcuts. Good sound picture quality, uses a standard mini SD card you can get cheaply nearly anywhere. Holds lots of mp3s. Keypad is excellent size for large fingers (and moms with blurry eyesight) just the right size for typing, and this model feels right in your hand. This flip phone is easy to open and feels solidly made. My teenager has it, but I'd like to swap. Too bad he won't appreciate my phone; it's pink!

3 out of 5 stars Features don't make up for poor reception   August 11, 2008

I bought this to replace a first-generation RAZR, and after spending time with it was able to set it up to operate the way I want. But that was rather futile since its reception is not good enough in my semi-rural area in western Mass. Where the RAZR gets 1 or 2 bars, good enough for a phone conversation, the Samsung gets a solid 0 bars (or maybe a flickering 1 bar). Calls drop or are distorted. Maybe the RAZR V3 for me.

4 out of 5 stars I wish there was a 4.5 rating-SWEETUM PHONE   December 31, 2007

Wow this phone is RAD! Ive had it for 2 weeks and I'm already in love. This is my first phone and I paid $130 for it at the ATT sorte after rebates....i know pretty expensive huh? I was deciding between this phone and the Samsung SGH A707. I was doing alot of research on the internet and figured out the pros and cons and my favorites of each phone. When I finally went to the store to get one they looked pretty different in my hand then on the websites. I only had a couple minutes because the clerk was waiting for me to hurry up. I compared the sizes of the sides, the overall shape (I wanted it to fit in my pocket), the color, and the features. I didnt see the price of the SLM since it wasnt on display so i didnt realyl know what i was in for. The Red Samsung SGH A707 was $40 but i didnt care. I felt like i had a better deal. I brought i home and startd playing with it as soon as i could. It was so cool how it had internet!! I went on my email and looked at all the ringtones and all the cooll features. Later I learned that it cost me money for every minute i was on there.....thats the down part. so my mom went to the store and canceled it. its still very tempting but i realize thats what computers are for. br /br /The Front screen of the phone its pretty great. Its not huge but who needs a huge screen? You can set it to have one of your pictures or you can set it to a clock. It tell syou how many bars you have, how the battery is doing, what day it is, and if you have a new message of if someone is calling. However, it doesnt use as a view finder for the camera. Guess why? cause the camera can rotate! IT smivels back and forth so you can take self portrates with the phone still open, and facing you. The strange part of this is that when you have the camera facing you, you show as upside down....but that does make a huge difference, because once you take the piture you can rotate it. Another down part of this phone is that id doesnt have a camera button on the outside part of the phone (or permanent inside button, but i live without it. br /br /This phone is very sleek and I was surprised to find out that it *does* fit in my pocket! there are no bumps or raised parts and so it is very easy to carry around. I was also glad to find that I havent lost this phone since it is a decent size. soem phoens are just to small for me but this one is just right. br /br /On the side of this wonderful phone there is the volume adjusters and on the other side is a headset jack/charger slot and a MicroSD card slot. The headset jack lets you listen to music without letting the whole world know what you are listening to. br /br /if you open the phone up you see a great screen and the key pad. The screen doesnt do too good in the light but I dont find that very frusterating. On the key pad, I thought that the green and red phone symbols were very stylish. Above them is the Music shortcut and a Mulittasker button....very nice. if you are sending a text message but then remember you had to call someone immaditaly but dont want to exit your message? then VOLIA this is the button for you. you can take your call and then once you're dont you can hang up and get back to your message without haveing to rewrite it! Now thats what im talking about. br /br /Above those keys are the soft keys which dont need much explaning, since every phone has them. beside those is the 'cilver circle' i call it. The Cirlce has its navigation things like left right up and down and an OK in the middle. If you're on the main screen though the OK button uses as a brower shrot cut. the up button is a shortcut to a text message, the left button is a shortcut to MyStuff they call it. the right button is a chat button where you can...you know....chat! While i was poking all the buttons, I also discovered that the Clear button (below the 'cilver circle') is a short cut to the calender. Sneaky Sneaky! br /br /If your're thinking about chooseing this phone stop thinking (save up) and buy it now!br /br /I suggest looking at CNET at www.cnet.com or if you wanna get a specific review about this phone, go to http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phones/samsung-slm-sgh-a747/4505-6454_7-32751900.html?tag=prod.txt.1 even though they are a little harsh. br /br /(I have the brown one and remember it pwns n00bs)
