Great Knits--Even if it is a celeb book November 3, 2008
I worried about a knitting book with a celebrity on the cover, but Tracy's observation's are fun to read, and Mel's patterns are great. I want to make most of the things in this book, and have already made the simple and elegant bath mat.

Highly Recommend August 5, 2008
This book has everything. It has pictures and funny stories. And funny pictures. And the designs are beautiful and trendy with really nice detailing. I'm a beginner and am fanatically looking at books. At first I flipped through and read all of Tracy Ullman's stories and Mel's advices. Then I went through and picked everything that I would make. Then I priced out how much the yarn would cost and decided to wait. Now I have found that this book is my favorite reference for learning how to do stitches. The directions are easier to follow than many other books. (My knitting still sucks.) I haven't made any of the pieces in here, but there sure is a lot of inspiration. br /br /

My one disappointment with this book is that the sizes are for small and medium sized women. If you're curvy then you've got some math to do. That beiing said I did enjoy the patterns and will probably make three or four of them, once I figure out the sizing.br /br /The humorous stories are great for a laugh.

Nice Patterns but Sizing Too Small April 29, 2008

I thought Mel Clark's patterns were quite nice just the sort I'd actually wear if they were larger. To bad the majority are in the small to medium range. I'm glad I borrowed this from the library first. I'd say I'm an advanced beginner and plan on making 2 of the children's patterns and the more challenging "Doctors Bag". I've always loved Tracey Ullman and I enjoyed her writing style. If the sizing works for you I'd recommend this book.

gorgeous patterns, small range of sizes April 16, 2008

I want to live Mel Clark's world, a world where Tracey Ullman is a "celebrity" and where women come no bigger than a 40" chest. br /br /Some patterns are so gorgeous; The Rowena Cardigan, Gym Slip Dress, and Tropical Garden Vest are my absolute favorites. But the sizing is limited and I'm not skilled enough that I can re-write a fair isle pattern. br /br /It's disappointing that an experienced knitter and yarn store owner can't be bothered to adjust her patterns to fit anything other than the "one size" of 36" as in the case of the Tropical Garden Vest.br /br /There are things I wouldn't be caught dead wearing (grown up bonnet or sea anemone bag anyone? YECH!) but overall, the book has beautiful color photographs and some really nice designs that those small enough to wear will look great in.br /br /p.s. to the person who was disappointed Tracey Ullman didn't actually "design" any patterns: be grateful! Lest you want a whole patten book full of gaudy Koigu dreads?!?!
