Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for single dads   January 7, 2008
The Shimbergs have written a thorough, detailed guide for single fathers navigating the treacherous waters of single-fatherhood. Most of the materials is aimed at divorced fathers. Includes both specific tips and activities, and "tips from the trenches" from single dads who have dealt with the many issues addressed in the book. There is also general parenting advice as well as general relationship advice for divorced dads dealing with an ex and plunging back into the dating world. Highly recommended for newly divorced dads who want to minimize the impact of their divorce on their kids (and their relationship with their kids).

5 out of 5 stars A great help to all dads   December 23, 2007
This book is such a blessing to single fathers, and, for that matter, any father. As a counselor, I frequently deal with men who have become single fathers, either through widowerhood or divorce. Sometimes, men must care for children because the mother is ill or away, as with so many military families these days. There are also many men who want to be closer to their own children and feel more competent to nurture and care for them. This book is a great answer for any dad who feels lost and alone. Fathers who read this book, even before the baby is born, will be reassured to know that parenting is a skill they can learn, and The Complete Single Father is exactly what its title says, a complete guide for any father who seeks information on expertly caring for his children. Any father, single or not, should have this close at hand, and mothers will find it useful, too. I'll recommend it to all the fathers I counsel, and it would also make a great Father's Day gift. 5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for all fathers   December 20, 2007

The Complete Single Father; A five star book written by a mother, son collaboration. The mother, Elaine Fantle Shimberg, an award winning author of more than 20 books, and Michael Shimberg, a successful single parent of two. br / The Complete Single Father is a wonderful reference tool for single fathers, either through divorce or death of a spouse, as was my case in July of 2000. I wish now I had a copy then. It is a MUST READ for the single father now adjusting to his new role in life with his children and ultimately with himself. The authors even cover proper nutrition and give recipes for a balanced meal. Try "Georges Slow Cooked Beef Tips."br / The Complete Single Father, reading it just might make you a complete married father as well. "TOYK." Think of your kids.br /(Review written by Craig Denbow, Dec. 21, 2007) Are You Ready to Be Your Own Boss?br /

5 out of 5 stars Great for ALL dads......single or not!   October 29, 2007

Many chapters of the book -- including Reassuring Your Children, Communicating Effectively, Showing Affection, Playing Together and Being Consistent with Discipline -- act as a how-to guide for being an engaged father. In addition to being extremely applicable to single fathers, several of my girlfriends are buying this book for their husbands so that they might feel less "helpless" when their wives are out of town on business, etc., and to help steer dads into the role of a fully engaged father. One of the greatest features of the book is its organization. Each chapter is broken down into sections and the table-of-contents is much more detailed than most, which makes it easy to skip to the sections that are relevant to you. I recommend the book to all dads, single or not! br /
