Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
DESCRIPTION: America's favorite pediatric experts turn their attention to the hottest topic in parenting--solving babies' sleep problems--in a definitive book that offers immediate results. For every parent who's ever been deprived of sleep by a restless infant or toddler, now there's hope. This much-needed addition to the Sears Parenting Library is the comprehensive, reassuring, solution-filled sleep resource that virtually every American family will want to own. Nighttime separation anxiety, new breastfeeding habits, and an increase in adult sleep problems have made babies' sleep habits a growing concern in recent years. The Searses offer solutions. Instead of espousing the kind of "one-method-fits-all" approach advocated in other parenting books, the Searses teach parents how to match the nighttime temperament of their baby to their own lifestyle. The authors draw on important new infant sleep research from the Mother-Baby Sleep Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame, as well as on their own personal experience as parents of children with a wide range of sleep habits. They also offer a detailed critique of the myriad new devices and ballyhooed techniques that promise to deliver safer and better infant sleep. THE BABY SLEEP BOOK provides parents with the practical tools they need to help the entire family sleep better.

5 out of 5 stars So glad I found this book when I did!   November 22, 2008
I have recommended this book to countless parents I have encountered in person and on the web. It is full of gentle, commonsense tips to getting a good night's sleep, as well as negotiating the "politics" of family sleep. All of the information is backed by science, and it makes a compelling argument against some of the more hard-core approaches--commonly called "sleep training"--which are variations on the old "cry-it-out" method. Do your baby - and your sanity - a favor and ignore the advice that runs contrary to your best parenting tools--your instincts. br /br /Unlike some other parenting philosophies and books on baby sleep, you can rest assured that any techniques you take away from this book will NOT be harmful to your child, in the short- or long-run. But, the beauty is that you do not have to follow it to the tee to be deemed a "good" parent. You can use what works for you and leave the rest. You can come back to it when your child is older or when you have another baby, and it will still be relevant and sound information you can rely on. br /br /Be forewarned: there is not a prescribed sleep "program" to follow in this book, for good reason. All babies are different (just like adults!), and what works for one will not work for another. Save yourself a lot of headache and heartache; don't buy into the notion that you need to follow an "expert's" sleep regimen in order to be a good parent or have a so-called good sleeper. br /br /For parents who appreciate well-researched and logical information on raising healthy children, but also want to follow their hearts and do what feels right, I also recommend Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6) by Ramiel Nagel.

5 out of 5 stars Attachment parenting fan   November 2, 2008

I have always been a fan of Dr. Sears. I was really excited to find his book on how to soothe your baby to sleep. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to read the book due to lack of time. I have two kids and at a age when they need my attention. I am sure I will love his advice because it coincides with mine about 99 % of the time. br /br /I always recommend Dr. Sears books. However, only if you believe in Attachment parenting.

5 out of 5 stars The Right Solution For Your Baby   October 28, 2008
It helped me. This book understands that there is not one sleep solution and helps you find the right solution for your family. After trying and failing at other sleep methods, I bought this book. With the help and encouragement of this book, we figured out our son and we were able to help him learn to relax and go to sleep. Now he goes to bed very easily and stays there all night.

5 out of 5 stars Great resource!   September 27, 2008
This book provided a great review of how babies sleep and dispelled a lot of myths that I hear from family and friends. I learned and continue to apply what I've read into my life with my baby. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to do the best for their baby.

5 out of 5 stars It helped me   July 22, 2008
I have a 22 month old that still does not sleep through the night, but we get a restful night sleep... and this book helped us a lot, it gave us tips, on how to improve our sleep time. And I know that I wont ever will sleep same as I did before I was a mom, and I never expected to do it. I was only able to EBF her for a year, but we co-sleep, and find this sleep arrangement to be the best of all. My husband can't be with her during the day, but they bond at night, during their sleep. They do grow up fast, so I'm all for enjoying every single minute I have with her... I know that eventually she is going to ask to sleep on her own bed, but we are not looking forward to that day. br /Many people ask about sex life while co-sleeping, and I can only say that ours is more creative and fun, we just don't stick sex to night time on the bed anymore. Life can't be better!!!
