2 out of 5 stars Sowtware quite buggy   October 17, 2008

The printer is good quality, speedy and inexpensive. It has a duplexer, and an ethernet port. So why only two stars? The software sucks. I'm using it with multiple networked Windows XP machines. I have serious problems controlling it. With my old HP, I could have different defaults set for different applications. This doesn't seem to work with this machine. For example, Quicken should be manual feed and simplex (for checks) and Acrobat should be tray feed and duplex (for technical documents). This doesn't happen. I've got to select the settings each time I change application. Sometimes I can't select settings at all. I'm fuming over trying to print a check at the moment - all settings (including the printer internal default) are set to manual feed, but the printer insists on using the tray. Also, the Samsung application on one of my machines became corrupted. It won't let me re-install without uninstalling first, but there is no obvious uninstall mechanism. Samsung tech support answers quickly, and is patient, but ultimately blames my computers and/or applications (I'm using two fresh Windows XP SP3 installs). Unfortunately I'm going to sell this machine, and but something else.

5 out of 5 stars Great item   September 30, 2008
I needed a good printer to take care of a lot of little jobs. Read the reviews and thought this sounded pretty good but a bit pricier than I wanted to go. Then I found the item at a ridiculously low price on Amazon and decided to take a chance.br /br /Could not be more pleased. It arrived when promised in perfect condition. I hooked it up and away we went. It is quiet, does an excellent job of printing and looks good. What more could anyone want. No problems at all. Excellent product at a great price from good people to deal with. A winner all the way around.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for Medium Usage   September 9, 2008

Bought this printer for regular usage.. I simply love the duplex feature and price combination... for less than $100 its a nice deal... Printer doesn't make too much noise... also the printing is fast and crisp. Definitely recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Not a perfect experience but a good printer   August 17, 2008

The DHCP client seems to have a bug where it is static at 192.0.0.192. I had to set my computer on that network and set the IP to static to get it on my 10.0.x.x network (all other devices on my network get an IP address from my router). I like the build quality, it feels less flimsy than most printers. The web-based interface gets the job done, there's more options than I would need.br /br /I have a Mac and the default Generic Postscript drivers didn't have a duplex option (this can be set in the web-based interface so it's not a huge deal). I tried the Generic Postscript 1.3 drivers and duplex worked but whenever I sent a job 10 pages it would printer the first few pages then print the rest blank. I finally solved this by using the Generic PCL Laser Printer 1.3 driver which allowed me to set the duplex and side (long or short) and I tested it with a few large jobs and it seemed to do okay.br /br /After a few weeks it started smearing. Samsung's support website is horrible! I had to upload a receipt, and it said if I didn't go through their troubleshooting guide online I would have to pay $50... the trouble-shooting guide online was a lot of 404 pages. I called support and they were very helpful. After about 30 minutes on the phone they sent me a replacement printer but only after I gave them my credit card in case I didn't send the old one back. The replacement printer arrived two days later). I am supposed to send the old printer back, but the link they sent me that had the return address is broken. I've emailed them back so hopefully I won't get charged for the second printer.br /br /...oh, and the problem with the smearing also occurred on the new printer, I figured out it was a leak in the toner cartridge. I bought a new one (this time the 5000 yield cartridge) and that fixed the problem.br /br /The good thing is once it's working it's working. Once it has an IP it was easy to set it up on a second Mac.br /br /Would I buy this again? Yes, where else can you get a laser printer with networking and duplexing and no toner counter that forces you to replace the toner for this price? I think if Samsung could improve their online experience and quality they could really give their customers a great experience. I am going to ask them to reimburse me for the paper (about 200 pages) I used troubleshooting it and the amount of unused ink in the leaking toner cartridge. I'll leave it at 4 stars if they do that, if not I'll come back and lower the rating.

5 out of 5 stars Great all around laser printer   May 19, 2008

So far this laser has been great. i was looking for a laser that printed on both sides and network ready. The samsung filled the bill at a very attractive price (can be has for $160 with instant rebate). It was a breeze to setup on Mac OS 10.5 as a network printer. Bonjour found it and just use the Samsung driver. Also since it has native postscript support you can use the Generic Postscript Driver with it as well. Works fine under 10.5 that way as well. Printing speed is awesome, and printing on both sides is great. the smaller form factor is great too.
