Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
James Taylor's "One Man Band," a new CD/DVD set of live recordings and the stories behind the songs. The set list is drawn from Taylor's recent concerts at the Colonial Theatre in the Berkshires and features new performances from some of the iconic singer/songwriter's most beloved recordings including "Something in the Way," "Carolina in my Mind," and "Fire and Rain," interspersed with Taylor's insightful and humorous anecdotes on the inspiration for the songs.

For the DVD portion of "One Man Band," Taylor called on veteran television events producer and director Don Mischer ("Kennedy Center Honors," and "Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show with Prince") and executive producer and acclaimed filmmaker Sydney Pollack ("Out of Africa," "Sketches of Frank Gehry") and their extensive talents to properly capture the feel of the live concerts. "One Man Band" tells the story of Taylor's songs through exclusive interviews and rare multi-media footage, including home movies and photographs from Taylor's personal archives. The result is an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind portrait of an artist, his renowned repertoire and the personal stories behind the songs.

Over the course of his career, James Taylor has sold over 40 million albums, and won over 40 gold, platinum and multi-platinum awards as well as five GRAMMY Awards. Taylor's first "Greatest Hits" album earned him the RIAA's elite Diamond Award, given for sales in excess of 10 million units in the United States. In 2000, Taylor was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame. In February 2006, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences named Taylor its MUSICARES Person of the Year.

5 out of 5 stars The DVD is wonderful   July 25, 2008
The DVD captures a wonderful concert by JT. You've heard all of the songs before, but there's something special about the atmosphere that the small theatre in Pittsfield, MA brings to the proceedings. JT is warm and affable and very funny. There's a confidence and ease about him, mixed with real joy and humility in sharing these songs with the audience. If only we all could find such grace with age. I love the CD, but all the more because it reminds me of the event captured on the DVD. This would make an excellent gift--to any JT fan, including yourself.

5 out of 5 stars James Taylor One Man Band   July 12, 2008
I was surprised that the "One man Band" consisted of two people. No big deal. The addition of a keyboard player added beautifully to the guitar.
I was also surprised at just how funny James Taylor is. Each song has an introduction along with a slide show (controlled by JT using pedals at his feet). He gives insight on what the songs are about and how they came to be. He uses prerecorded video of a local choir for the backing vocals of "Shower the People" and "Traveling Star". Perfectly in sync. The other great part is the audio CD that is paired with the video. Of course the music and voice are perfect. The "drum machine" is amazing !! I was given the CD's as a gift and I have been thru it at least 3 times in the last month. I highly recommend it fir the JT fan.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Night with James Taylor: A Fan's "Must Have"   June 20, 2008
James Taylor has been one of the greatest singer-songwriter's the industry has ever seen. For over 40 years, James Taylor has been writing and recording song after song of amazing music. With this "new" [November 2007]live CD+DVD "One Man Band", James leads us through a fantastic journey through some of his greatest, and most beloved songs. To accompany him, James has teamed up with Jazz legend Larry Goldings, who brings a whole new view to some of James' classics. With some of the old such as "You can Close Your Eye's" and "Rockabye Sweet Baby James", some of the new "My Traveling Star" and "Mean Old Man" and some of those gems that live in between, "Copperline" and "Never die Young", this CD bring the listener closer to James' music than one could imagine. Also, you get a glimpse of James Taylors funny, and kind demeanor while he entertains he audience with stories of his travels, and the stories behind some of his most popular hits. To anyone who is a ture James Taylor fan, this is a must have CD+DVD to add to your collection.
Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Good...but forgetable!   June 4, 2008

James Taylor has been putting out INCREDIBLE music for nearly 40 years, and he can definitely still charm an audience. That said, this CD and DVD, while very well performed, is lacking something. It is kind of like "It's all been said and done before, so what is the point?" Honestly, as much as I love James' music, I was bored to tears watching the DVD and can not get all the way through listening to the CD. I would much rather listen to James' "Greatest Hits" CD's or his previous live recordings for Columbia. Seek those out and let this one go...

5 out of 5 stars Passing on a love of JT's work   May 29, 2008
I'm a lover of James Taylor's music and have most of his albums. When I saw this concert on TV, I knew I needed to get it for a granddaughter who plays guitar and writes/sings her own music. I gave her the DVD of the show, and I kept the music CD. Thus, we both get to enjoy the album/show. I can only hope she will get as much pleasure from it as I have--even though I have most of the songs on other albums.
