Massive and impressively comprehensive, the ICountry Roads Box Collection/I is classic John Denver. Spanning four discs, the collection not only draws upon the obvious highlights of Denver's career, but also includes fan favorites that might not have received the same airplay as their more popular counterparts. Listening to ICountry Roads/I, the finesse with which Denver balanced his folk rock tendencies with his country leanings emerges as testament to his talent. As a box set, the collection would be remiss if it didn't include "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Annie's Song," "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," or "Rocky Mountain High"--and, of course, the box set's namesake is here. Later hits like "Calypso," with its sea-shanty yodeling, portray Denver's ability to ease himself into the role of balladeer, regardless of the genre. Novelty duets with Placido Domingo and Emmylou Harris were intended to rekindle what seemed to be lagging popularity, but ICountry Roads/I establishes John Denver's contributions as timeless, nonetheless. i--Steve Gdula/i

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Own Set For Fans   August 22, 2008

This is a very nice collection of John Denver's most popular songs, hits or otherwise. I could quibble about some personal favorites that aren't here, but all in all this is a very complete set. And the liner notes are very well written and informative, which is always a nice added value.br /br /I already owned most of the individual studio albums this set culls from, but I bought the box set because of the re-mastered audio, and for the most part I am satisfied with the sound quality. The sound on this collection is much better than that of the older original albums, say, up through "Back home Again". But after that, from "Windsong" forward, the sound quality on the original albums was much improved and this set's re-mastering does not provide too much of an improvement in those cases. At least not one that's obvious without doing a direct A/B comparison, which I did not do.br /br /So, to sum up, I would recommend this CD set to all big fans of John Denver, even those who may have most of the music on other CD's. The improved sonics are worth the purchase price. And if you are a more casual fan, I would recommend it to you as perhaps the only John Denver collection you'll ever really need. But if you just want the hit's, there are many other smaller best-of's available that would be a better choice.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation   July 9, 2008
br / All John Denver fans should have this set. From his early material to his later, most of the best is here. I personaly heard alot of the songs on this set for the first time and was pleasantly surprized. I Highly recommend this compilation .
