Editorial Reviews:

This is about as treacly as pop can get, yet something about it endears and endures. Forget the Neil Youngish banality of "Horse with No Name." The best America songs feature a delicate yet intricate interplay of acoustic guitars that creates a tableau for sweeter-than-sweet vocalese. Just try not to sing along to "Ventura Highway" or "Sister Golden Hair." Try not to be suckered into sentimental reminiscence when listening to "I Need You" or the superb "Daisy Jane." And if your heart hardens when listening to the low-key lope of the "Muskrat Love," you must be cold-blooded. I--Tod Nelson/I

4 out of 5 stars Not as complete as America the complete greatest hits.   August 26, 2007
I really like this band. I don't know of any of their songs I don't like. I have always listened to this cd and thought it was great. Then I saw and heard them on Soundstage and I couldn't believe all the great songs I forgot about that aren't on this cd. If I were to buy just one of their cd's I would buy America The Complete Greatest Hits. I gave them 4 stars because of the missing songs.

4 out of 5 stars American Gold...   August 14, 2007

I love the song 'Horse with no Name', don't ask me what it's about, just a catchy tune. America always had the song with the catchy tunes and here you can get all of them in one album. No need to buy any other America collection, their history album tells it all.

5 out of 5 stars All the "America" hits you love   March 19, 2007
I had first bought the "Here and Now" hoping to hear the original recordings, but was slightly disappointed that on that CD the older songs were live performances only. If you want their hits as you remember hearing them on the radio or your old album that may be trashed, this is the CD for you.

4 out of 5 stars America, here we come   October 22, 2006

It's funny to think the band isn't really from America. You'll find that out when you read the band history inside the cover. Though the album is short, it's filled with entirely listenable songs from the 70's. Soft rock at its best. Sometimes moody, often times just easy listening. br /br /Often sounding a lot like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, America manages to escape the similarities with plenty of hits and beautifully-written melodies that never seem to grow old. Though a very short disc, America: History- Greatest Hits is a good buy. You'll be sure to recognize more than a few songs on here, I'm sure.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting story behind the art for this record (and other albums)   July 19, 2006

Yes, it's true; Phil Hartman (known as a Saturday Night Live alumnus and "Bill McNeal" from Newsradio) drew/painted/designed the artwork for this album!br /br /Phil also designed the Crosby Stills Nash logo, the Poco's 1978 album art for "Legend", and Firesign Theatre's album art for "The Fighting Clowns".br /br /From one artist to another: Rest in Peace, Phil. br /br /
