When I was a kid, I wore this record out--and Denver inspired me to learn to play guitar, so I'm forever in his debt. This is the most accessible of his albums; however, it also has some of his best work. The title track--which he wrote with Joe Henry--might be his best song. This coupled with "The Wings That Fly Us Home" from his follow-up ("Spirit")are lyrically and musically inspired. Plus it has his hits. I think of all his love songs, "I'm Sorry" is probably the most honest one he ever wrote--really gives an insight into his personality, as well as his willingness to be vulnerable in his own art.

5 out of 5 stars A classic album from John   January 14, 2008

Following the huge success of Back home again, which included Annie's song and remains the pinnacle of John's career, there was plenty of interest in this follow-up album. While it does not quite match its illustrious predecessor, it is a wonderful album - one of the best of his career. br /br /The first single from the album featured I'm sorry, a superb ballad that made number one in the American pop and country charts, and Calypso, a tribute to naturalist Jacques Cousteau and my favorite song here. I am surprised that they were two sides of the same single - Calypso deserved to be given a separate release but nevertheless became a huge American hit in its own right. Neither song charted in Britain although Calypso received plenty of airplay. br /br /Fly away (featuring backing vocals by Olivia Newton-John) became an American top twenty pop hit. Other highlights include Windsong, Looking for space and Song of Wyoming. br /br /If you enjoy John's music enough to be interested in collecting at least some of his original albums, this one should definitely be a high priority.

5 out of 5 stars One Of JD's Best   March 2, 2007

I love the tracks on this one. However, its really a shame that they didn't re-release this in John's lifetime. With many great re- releases of his since his passing, I'm glad to have many now which were unavailable before. Except for the fact that RCA shamefully had to wait until his untimely demise for the great cash in with these releases. Well at least we have them now..
