Product Description

One year ago, Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage like a comet. Yet even now, few Americans know who this remarkable woman really is.

On September 3, 2008 Alaska Governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention that electrified the nation and instantly made her one of the most recognizable women in the world.

As chief executive of America's largest state, she had built a record as a reformer who cast aside politics-as-usual and pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. And the biggest private sector infrastructure project in U.S. history. And while revitalizing public school funding and ensuring the state met its responsibilities to seniors and Alaska Native populations, Palin also beat the political "good ol' boys club" at their own game and brought Big Oil to heel.

Like her GOP running mate, John McCain, Palin wasn't a packaged and over-produced candidate. She was a Main Street American woman: a working mom, wife of a blue collar union man, and mother of five children, the eldest of whom was serving his country in a yearlong deployment in Iraq and the youngest, an infant with special needs. Palin's hometown story touched a populist nerve, rallying hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans to the GOP ticket.

But as the campaign unfolded, Palin became a lightning rod for both praise and criticism. Supporters called her "refreshing" and "honest," a kitchen-table public servant they felt would fight for their interests. Opponents derided her as a wide-eyed Pollyanna unprepared for national leadership. But none of them knew the real Sarah Palin.

In this eagerly anticipated memoir, Palin paints an intimate portrait of growing up in the wilds of Alaska; meeting her lifelong love; her decision to enter politics; the importance of faith and family; and the unique joys and trials of life as a high-profile working mother. She also opens up for the first time about the 2008 presidential race, providing a rare, mom's-eye view of high-stakes national politics—from patriots dedicated to "Country First" to slick politicos bent on winning at any cost.

Going Rogue traces one ordinary citizen's extraordinary journey and imparts Palin's vision of a way forward for America and her unfailing hope in the greatest nation on earth.

I wonder if she even knows the definition of ROGUE - a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel. Who titles their book this? Oh, that's right... Sarah Palin.

This was the worst book I've ever read in my life. Sarah Palin has successfully made herself look like even more of an idiot.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful, Compelling, Inspirational   November 19, 2009
Reader (Tustin)
The book is delightful. Compellingly written. Yes, like so many politicians, including Barack Obama, Sarah had an editor working with her on the book. This co-writer simply took the material and shaped it. But the facts of Sarah's life are not made up. And it is a thrilling American story. A little girl who grew up in Alaska, took on the old boys' network, fired the butts of incompetent males and withstood their frivolous attacks. The whole Alaska section of the book is a great read. It alone would make a superb book. But of course, Sarah Palin has gone on to greater heights. And continues to climb.

I love her humor throughout. Indeed that is what the great characteristics of Sarah Palin. Her cheer and graciousness even in the face of the worst bile thrown by the haters, who are demonstrably unhappy. One of the things they can't stand is that Sarah Palin is a happy warrior. Just like Ronald Reagan. It drives them crazy that they can't stop her from having a fulfilled life, full of joy and success.

And that joy is clearly centralized in her family and her faith. That's another thing the haters can't stand: Sarah Palin has a strong religious faith. Haters hate that.

But still the humor wins out, permeates the book. One exampe. Sarah loves to eat meat. She makes no apologies for it. She say in the book, "I always remind people from outside our state that there is plenty of room for all Alaska's animals -- right next to the mashed potatoes." (It makes me laugh because I know it will cause the haters to go dyspeptic and render them unable to digest their tofu).

Throughout the book is sprinkled her political and philosophical views. But in the last chapter she gets specific, and lays down principles our country better get behind unless we want to go the way of socialist Europe.

Sarah Palin clearly has what it takes to lead. Her toughness in the face of all the hate is inspirational. That she has the haters is so beside themselves shows her power.

Buy this book. It's a wonderful story, one of the most pleasurable reading experiences I have had in a long time.
