4 out of 5 stars Minor frustration   November 21, 2009
Nicholas Webb (London)
A smashing piece of technology. The sample tasting is particularly useful.

However, my first download gave me the wrong text. It was a book by the right author, but not the one I wanted and not the one the title of which appeared in the home screen. It might well be a publisher problem and not Amazon.

This is not the end of the world, but it is irritating trying to tell anybody about it. This is because the feedback is managed into many options, and none of them covers downloading a book that is not what it appears. Amazon is too big to handle individual complaints without automation, I suppose.

AAgh.

2 out of 5 stars FALSE ADVERTISING! Kindle LACKING!   November 21, 2009

Your advertising for this product mentions PDF Files and leads the potential purchaser to believe that it will read files with a "PDF" file extension, and it does'nt. I purchased this Kindle, and was latere told that there is a nominal fee to convert the pdf files so the Kindle can read them. Is it the cost (A whopping fifteen cents per meg) that I am charged to have Amazon convert the file? Not because of the amount for conversion. Why? Because your sales methods border on false advertising! If I had known that your technology was so limited I would have bought a different eBook reader. I purchased th book "Windows 7 resource kit". I went through submitting the eBook from the CD that came with the book to Amazon for conversion. Guess what? The file is 35Meg in size (Over 1708 pages), and as such is too big to make it through email. It is rejected because of it's size. I have spoken to other Kindle owners, and this a issue with them too. Consider these 3 things:
1) Stop your false advertising!
2) Offer a copy of the conversion software to Kindle owners.
3) Should you choose to respond to this input, Make sure that it contains A resolution for this issue.

Very pleased with my Kindle. It is everything I expected. Would like to see more book titles available.

5 out of 5 stars Best buy ever   November 21, 2009

Kindle 2 was my best buy ever: user-friendly, portable, cleverly designed to allow me to immerse in the story. For many years I longed for a device like this; finally I am reading eBooks without sore eyes.

4 out of 5 stars Kindle 2   November 21, 2009
Steve (CT USA)
I've been using my new Kindle 2 for a couple weeks. It's great! Love the weight, nice and light. The size, is perfect. The capability to change the font is great. I've always hated when I'd buy a book and it was smaller than normal font...
Really didn't think I would like reading from the device, but I do.

I bought it at the time the Nook from Barnes and Nobles was coming out. So I looked at what that device had verses the Kindle. The only thing that I liked on the nook was no charge for sending emails to the device with documents. With the Kindle, there is a charge. However, files can be copied to the Kindle via the USB cable with no charge. Since I'm not planning on using for a document reading, I didn't see this as a big deal. But if you plan to send documents to it and want to do it easily by just emailing, you may want to look at the Nook.
