Product Description

Don't Battle an Eating Disorder Forever- Recover from It Completely
Jenni Schaefer and Ed (eating disorder) are no longer on speaking terms, not even in her most difficult moments. In her bestseller, Life Without Ed, Jenni learned to treat her eating disorder as a relationship, not a condition-enabling her to break up with Ed once and for all.

In Goodbye Ed, Hello Me Jenni shows you that being fully recovered is not just about breaking free from destructive behaviors with food and having a healthy relationship with your body; it also means finding joy and peace in your life.

“Every young woman and man interested in overcoming disordered eating should read this treasure of a book.”
-Leigh Cohn, M.A.T., CEDS, Editor-in-Chief, Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention

“The beauty of Jenni's written journey through her tormented relationship with Ed is that it is honest, passionate, hopeful-but, most important, it ultimately assures the reader that life really can move on.”
-Lynn Grefe, CEO, National Eating Disorders Association

Combining Jenni's signature personal advice and unfailing encouragement along with valuable exercises you can do as you read, Goodbye Ed, Hello Me will give you the prescriptive tools to take the final steps in divorcing your Ed completely.

Foreword by Carolyn Costin, LMFT, M.A., M.Ed.

5 out of 5 stars Time for us ALL to start talking about the next stage beyond recovery   November 4, 2009

An important and wonderfully engaging book for current patients, recent patients, and fully recovered patients and their families. This book is a celebration and exploration of a stage we rarely talk about: beyond recovery to LIFE.

It is time to speak up and talk with optimism and joy and humor - as well as the work - of really living beyond ED. So much of what is written in the ED world is harrowing and heartfelt but not necessarily helpful. Schaefer steps beyond the clichés and into real innovative thought. I am truly an admirer.

5 out of 5 stars Don't battle an eating disorder forever, recover from it completely!   October 15, 2009

I love "Goodbye Ed, Hello Me" by Jenni Schaefer. This is one of the best recovery books I ever read. It covers so many important lessons that those struggling with eating disorders need to hear, no matter at what stage they are in their recovery.

I really liked that the book also includes exercises to get you, the reader, involved and moving forward in your own healing journey. But what I like most about the book is that Jenni talks about how she moved from "being in recovery" to "being recovered." Many people believe that one has to struggle with an eating disorder forever, or be forever in recovery and has to learn to just live with it.

Jenni's book shows us that eating disorders really can be beaten, ONCE AND FOR ALL. This book will inspire you to take action and know that life without Ed (eating disorder) really is possible for you!"

5 out of 5 stars Looking for motivation? This is the book for you.   September 28, 2009

This is the book to read if you are feeling down and hopeless over an eating disorder. It's hard to dip into it and not come away feeling that with the right attitude and a lot of gumption you, too, can overcome even the most difficult disorder.

Jenni Schaefer chronicled her winning battle against anorexia and bulimia in Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too, in which she popularized the concept of naming and personifying her eating disorder (in her case, calling it "Ed" for short).

In this book, Goodbye Ed, Hello Me: Recover From Your Eating Disorder and Fall in Love with Life, Schaefer declares, "I'm now divorced from Ed (and married to myself). " She is more interested in how to live life post-Ed.

There are chapters on everything from how to begin treating yourself well instead of feeling you are not worthy of good things ("Jenni Deserves a Kitchen Table"), how recovery taught her to recognize and accept feelings of loneliness and sadness ("The Sadness Cloud") and some spot-on advice from the still-recovering, first-class perfectionist on learning to let go and have fun ("Having Fun to Save My Life").

Interspersed throughout the book are "Real Action" exercises you can do, such as keeping a "worry journal" to calculate the time you waste needlessly obsessing, or writing down then eliminating the eating-disordered behaviors that you are still holding on to (Jenni's was being a closet drinker of diet soda).

One thing Schaefer is adamant about is that she is recovered, period. Even a difficult, last-minute broken engagement (the dress had been purchased, the invitations stamped and ready to mail) did not send her running back into Ed's arms.

Schaefer was great company on the road to recovery; now she's there for those facing the post-recovery challenge of living a full life again.

I love this book. It is easy to read as it is broken up into small chapters. Jenni is upbeat and very convincing. I like how she doesn't leave room for many excuses in recovery. The book is easy to relate to and I would recommend this book to anybody who is in recovery from an eating disorder.

5 out of 5 stars One of the BEST out there...   September 4, 2009

I was so thrilled yesterday to open up my mailbox to find an autographed copy of Jenni Schaefer's new book, Goodbye Ed, Hello Me! Jenni is also the wonderful author of the book Life Without Ed, a humorous, insightful, and down-to-earth personal story of one woman's 'break-up' and recovery from Ed: her eating disorder. Her lastest work is its companion. I read Life Without Ed during my recovery, and have since recommended it out as a helpful tool to many young men and women as I travel and speak. I was lucky enough to read Goodbye Ed, Hello Me pre-publication and offer a quote for the first page. I HIGHLY recommend both of these books for both individuals and families going through this battle. Jenni's writing is insightful and real; no lofty language, no 'doctor' talk, just raw human emotions, and humor as well. Everyone can relate to Jenni's story, and she is so honest! It's refreshing.
