Product Description
Death is the last chapter in everyone's life story, and while we would rather not dwell on it, we're often hungry for insights and information that will comfort us and calm our fears. In Shining Moments: Finding Hope in Facing Death, Georgia Weithe provides an intellectual rationale for the importance of coming to terms with death, an emotional glimpse into what it is like to sit vigil while someone we love is dying, and spiritual directions for how to create an atmosphere of comfort and safety to support the dying person and help them let go. The book shines a positive light on death to help us accept its presence in our lives. It offers readers the hopeful message that when we have found the key to living with the knowledge of our own death, the door to inner peace and the hope of fulfilling our true purpose on earth is opened. Shining Moments is a valuable resource for all who have an intellectual curiosity about death, for friends and family members of loved ones who are in the final stage of life, and for Hospice and other end-of-life care professionals who assist them with their journey. EXCERPT Death's Gift:We take much for granted in life, because we assume there will always be another day to pay attention to the beauty around us, or to alter or elevate the quality of our relationships with those we love. The illusion that life on earth never ends allows us to pretend we can continue as we are forever. The gift that death has to offer is the awareness that all pleasure is finite, all beauty is transient, as well as the knowledge that we will not be here forever to work through our problems with others. So acknowledge the presence of those you love, and let go of life in the sweetest way you know how. Live your life so you have no regrets. Honor your spouse or partner, your children, your friends. Never resort to violent acts or bring ruthless thoughts into the realm of your being. Draw down the love in every situation and replace vengeance with peaceful, loving vibrations. Admit to yourself that life is fleeting and all things as we know them will come to an end. Out of the awareness of the endings, create new beginnings.

5 out of 5 stars Heart Inspired!   September 26, 2008

We live in a world and are a people of quick fixes. Modern technology seems to have a cure all, or make it better pack, for every area in our lives that annoy or disturb us in anyway. However, there is one area that each of us, in time, one way or another, must face head-on, and that is, death.br / In this tender book by author, Georgia Lang Weithe, we take the journey with her as she confronts the loss of her father. We travel with her from the first sign of trouble, to the final breath he takes. It certainly is a journey that you will remember.br / I want to say right off, this is not a woe is me, depressing read, quite the contrary. Although it definitely takes a hard look at the unpleasantness of the situation, this author opens areas that we have carefully guarded for many years, and confronts them. To name one, I feel his book will be especially helpful to those of you who are in the Baby-Boom generation, although it certainly will be a plus to many others. However, if you are of that generation, which I am, Ms. Weithe gives some good insight into our growing-up years and the world that we lived in, and interestingly intertwines them in our emotional reaction to death. This was quite an eye-opener and certainly a truth. I was amazed at her revelation. Good job.br / This book doesn't stop there, however, it touches on many of the deep seated emotions we have all pushed inside of us and takes an honest look at them. Ms. Weithe shares her heart, her fears, her joys, and leaves us knowing that indeed death will touch us all, with loved ones, with ourselves, but the journey does not have to just involve pain and loss, regrets and heartache, but can be so much more rewarding if we know the path to take.br / This is definitely one of a kind read. Touching, honest, soul-reaching, and one I am happy to recommend. Well done, from beginning to end.br / br /

5 out of 5 stars Facing the inevitable   August 16, 2008

The book comes to me as I am living with my aged parents' gradual, but quickening, deterioration. Their deaths have always seemed to be distant and somewhat abstract inevitabilities, but now I can see that their time here is short. This book is giving me the strength and compassion to continue to be part of their lives in a loving and mindful way.

5 out of 5 stars Hopeful Insight   August 14, 2008

Facing our own deaths is distinctly different from dealing with the deaths of loved ones. Weithe manages to bring these two difficult ideas together in Shining Moments with insight and -- what I think is key for most readers -- hope.
