5 out of 5 stars Teach Your Children Early To Feel Good About Themselves   August 16, 2008

Self-esteem is so important to promoting happy, balanced and empowered children. This is a great start for children since it does a great job explaining to them what their personal power is all about. A companion book for parents that I have found invaluable to parenting my children is:Bully-Proofing Children: A Practical, Hands-On Guide to Stop Bullying. It goes way beyond bullying as it gives you incredible strategies, stories to share with your kids and tips on buiding their self-esteem and communication skills so your child never becomes a bully or victim. Get them both to round out your bookshelf.

3 out of 5 stars A useful resource   August 7, 2008

Suggestions and anecdotes in _Stick Up For Yourself_ are helpful for opening discussions with little ones, particularly those who may be socially sensitive or (too) highly adaptable. I don't agree with all its suggestions, but the basic premise is sound -- that to develop personal integrity and firmness of resolve requires thoughtful practice -- and overall, it's a nice resource.

this is an important work. I've submitted it for consideration by the youth education faculty at my church.

5 out of 5 stars Helping your child's Self Esteem   March 18, 2007

This is an excellent book. My son and I read a little bit of it at bedtime and keep a notebook to jot down our thoughts. It has improved his self-worth and it has helped me relearn social skills that I should be using in my own life.

5 out of 5 stars Help during difficult times   February 22, 2007

My six year old son has been struggling with his father's military deployment. He needed some positive tools to help him communicate exactly what he is feeling and what he needed from the adults around him. I am so glad that I found this book and started reading it with him. We do the journaling together and I have also learned a lot. I have seen a big difference in his attitude and behavior. It really does give kids the power they need to feel secure. I have plans to buy several copies of this book and give them as gifts to my closest friends. It is a great book!
