Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Young people starting out in television sometimes say to me: #8220;I want to be you.#8221; My stock reply is always: #8220;Then you have to take the whole package.#8221;brbrAnd now, at last, the most important woman in the history of television journalism gives us that #8220;whole package,#8221; in her inspiring and riveting memoir. After more than forty years of interviewing heads of state, world leaders, movie stars, criminals, murderers, inspirational figures, and celebrities of all kinds, Barbara Walters has turned her gift for examination onto herself to reveal the forces that shaped her extraordinary life.brbrBarbara Walters#8217;s perception of the world was formed at a very early age. Her father, Lou Walters, was the owner and creative mind behind the legendary Latin Quarter nightclub, and it was his risk-taking lifestyle that made Barbara aware of the ups and downs that can occur when someone is willing to take great risks.brbrThe financial responsibility for her family, the fear, the love all played a large part in the choices she made as she grew up: the friendships she developed, the relationships she had, the marriages she tried to make work. brUltimately, thanks to her drive, combined with a decent amount of luck, she began a career in television. And what a career it has been! Against great odds, Barbara has made it to the top of a male-dominated industry.brbrShe has spent a lifetime auditioning, and this book, in some ways, is her final audition, as she fully opens up both her private and public lives. In doing so, she has given us a story that is heartbreaking and honest, surprising and fun, sometimes startling, and always fascinating.

4 out of 5 stars Barbara   December 1, 2008
I wish I could tell Barbara myself how much I liked her book. It sounds like she is sitting right there telling her memoir. Good read.

5 out of 5 stars Magellan Maestro 4125 - is very nice   November 29, 2008
Got this for my wife as an anniversary present, and she really loves it...br /br /but the neighbors say to be careful because the suction cup that holds it is an invite to criminals

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book   November 22, 2008
This is my second copy purchased. GREAT, warm book....like curling up with your fav quilt and having a cup of tea. I got the first to give as a gift and got so many raves from the recipient I decided to get a copy for myself. LOVED IT

3 out of 5 stars Barbara Walters Audition   November 19, 2008
The book is an interesting journey in this womans life.Highly intertainingbr /but a bit long.Still a very good read.

2 out of 5 stars Too much detail, not enough interest.   November 13, 2008
I admire Barbara Walters as an interviewer tremendously. I was interested in learning more about this woman who preceded my generation and broke the way for females in journalism. While the book is easy to read and is chockful of names, dates, and anecdotes, I found it too tedious to wade through and quit after 200 pages. br /br /I think if I were from the same age group, the book might be more appealing. But as it was, I had little interest in many of the people and incidents she described. br /br /Maybe I will try this again some day, but I doubt it. I'll just wait for the E! Behind the Scenes version. ;)
