2 out of 5 stars a hateful little book that is perfect for insurance billing   December 21, 2008
This has been the only version of the DSM that I've owned in the past nine years, and it suits my purposes: short, sweet, consise, gets right to the diagnostic criteria without a lot of fuss. If you're in the mental health field and are required to make diagnoses to be able to bill, then this is the book for you.br /br /But what a hateful little joke of a book. I've heard people compare this book to a field guide (such as for birds or butterflies). HARDLY! Field guides tell about real phenomena, real categories that are objectively definable and distinct, real things that you can actually learn from. This book tries to give that impression, scientifically even. Yeah right. What is scientific about a bunch of so-called experts sitting around a room literally VOTING on the definition of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and anxiety... br /br /It's a great error to take this book too seriously...and I look forward to the day when no one cares about conventional diagnosis at all anymore.

5 out of 5 stars Slightly delay but was refunded most of the price and still got the book.   November 19, 2008
The book was not shipped for 10 days. When I emailed the staff they told me they were training someone new, refunded me $10, and paid for the book to be overnighted. Overall a very good experience.

5 out of 5 stars DSM-IV Purchase   July 12, 2008
Recently misplaced my DSM-IV quick-reference manual and needed one desperately for my work. Ordered from Amazon and had my replacement within a week. This little book is a must when you are working within a tight schedule so I really appreciate having Amazon and its sellers as a resource for replacing hard to find items such as the DSM-IV manual.

5 out of 5 stars convenient   March 30, 2008
I like how convenient this book is...it is small enough to carry in my purse.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the money   February 27, 2008
It is exactly what it says, a quick reference. If you are buying it for clinical work for quick referencing in staff meetings it is perfect however it does not replace the full DSM for thorough case studies. If you need a quick and small reference, I would suggest buying this book.
