3 out of 5 stars An Inconvenient Truth About An Inconvenient Truth   November 4, 2009
M'ssty
I like the content and I agree to what it says for the most part. My only problem with it is that it is very inconvenient that it isn't available on Kindle... Someone dropped the ball and sacrificed trees in not making it available on electronic media. (I did not mean DVD)

1 out of 5 stars Where is the research?   October 9, 2009
Free Speech (South Florida)

Is one supposed to just believe Al Gore? A cranky left wing politician who has no credentials as a scientist, declares man is causing global warming. What a stupid premiss. This book has no research, nothing to substantiate his claims.

I guess he appeals to the believing is seeing crowd. Most people with intelligence expect more than that. Global warming is a nothing more than a populist movement, based upon hype. The truth is the climate cycles over the centuries naturally. The Earth just completed a period called the mini-ice age, which started in the 1300's and ended in the early 1800's. It makes sense we will experience the same level of warming that existed in the 1200's and earlier; when England was able to grow wine, for example, because the climate was warmer then.

Al Gore and other profits of doom have created this nonsense as a way to scare politicians into pursuing socialist taxation programs and other subsidies under the guise of aiding the earth's climate. What a bunch of lies.

5 out of 5 stars Must Read   August 22, 2009

So maybe Al Gore hasn't been the BEST example in global warming leadership. Does that make his facts less relevant though? I think not. Anyone who cares about their environment should at least read this book. It's more of a picture book anyway, so there's no excuse to not be able to read through it! Claiming ignorance is not ok to rationalize irresponsible behavior. Claiming you "don't want to know" and intentionally remaining ignorant is even worse. Read this book!

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING BEAUTIFUL BOOK!!!!   August 10, 2009

This book is the best book I have seen by far on global warming in my opinion. I really like how it is filled with graphic pictures on every page and how the content is simplified so that anyone can understand the global warming issue. Great book!

5 out of 5 stars A convincing argument with an excellent presentation   July 4, 2009
Digital Puer (Los Angeles, CA USA)

This is an exceptional book that presents its scientific arguments in a manner that is cohesive, well organised, and excellently presented. The author posits that ongoing and progressively worse pollution of the atmosphere is causing planetary climate change. He argument is sound: he presents results of scientific studies and collected evidence that show that there is a strong correlation between increased CO2 production and global warming, which leads to, for example, more destructive storms, melting icecaps, more flooding, destroyed ecosystems, and less drinkable water for regions that depend on mountaintop snow and ice. At the very least, increased storm-related damages lead to higher insurance premiums for all of us in the USA. The author also directly responds to skeptics, for example by explaining why the temperature increase over the past century is magnitudes greater than natural planetary temperature variations (see pp. 63-67, 312). The author provides suggestions on what can be done, including raising automobile fuel economy standards, reducing electricity use, and using carbon exchange markets (also known as cap-and-trade).

Some critics have a point in stating that the book lacks scientific rigour. Indeed, this is not a textbook, and the author does not provide references. Rather, this book is a general-audience "coffee table" companion to the author's documentary movie, which has had its validity backed by renowned scientists worldwide.

I'm not sure how any rational person can argue against the conclusions presented in this book. That means there are really only two types of people who have a reason to stand against it: irrational people and Republicans (usually one in the same but not always). Some critics may be against acting to fix the climate because, as the author describes quite well, doing what's needed is inconvenient to us: we have to cut down on driving and using electricy, and it sure is troublesome to change all those lightbulbs. People like this who are led by lethargic habits are the same folks who had a hard time believing that using seatbelts and quitting smoking are good for you. The Republicans, on the other hand, would rather win a Pyrrhic victory and see the Earth engulfed in flames than follow the lead of a well-educated, Nobel Prize-winning Democrat.

The photography and design in this book are absolutely stunning. Students of graphic design will love the use of photos, infographics, illustrations, varied fonts, foldouts, and interesting arrangements that really capture the reader's eye.

Finally, the presentation and organisation are also outstanding. I was actually choked up a bit reading the last chapter where the author states that our nation has endured hardships before and asks for a call to action. Given the resources, ingenuity, education, and determination that reside in us all, we really have to start moving forward.
