2 out of 5 stars The final tale of the three cursed witches.   November 30, 2008
2 out of 3 found this review helpful

A fair fantasy romance. The last entry in a trilogy. br / Isadora is the eldest of three cursed witches. Cursed to lose their husbands to death before age 30. The youngest sister, Sophie, believes that the three united sisters could finally break the curse. So the quest for witch sister re-unification is on. br /br / As the novel opens, widowed Isadora is the prisoner of unscrupulous, conniving Emperor Sebestyen. The pregnant Emperess Liane has saved Isadora's life by assigning her to the position of royal midwife/slave.br / Liane is a former courtesan who married the Emperor. Unfortunately, she is still a whore at heart. Liane is hiding the fact that she is carrying twins. Liane believes that her husband would destroy one of the babies.br / The Chosen Warrior, Captain Lucan Hern, is on a quest to find the mysterious Star of Bacwyr. He becomes convinced that a borrowed ring on Isadora's finger is the coveted, magical Star. He has been instructed that possession of the Star will make him the Prince of Swords. Did I mention that he is a perfect male specimen? br / He demands Isadora's sexual services in exchange for pledging to fight for Evil Sebestyen against the Rebel forces. Lucan fears witches, and is unaware of Isadore's true nature. He is attracted to her and intends to bed her and seduce the ring off of her finger. After all, even with no choice, she will enjoy it. All women love him.br / Now any intelligent reader knows that the Star, that he must find and keep, is not a simple ring.br / Isadora must choose between the Dark, using her power to destroy, or the Light, using her power to heal and protect. There is no suspense, the reader knows what the outcome of Isadora's decision will be. For a witch she is downright powerless.br / Isadora is forced to attend to Lucan's desires but swears to remain true to her beloved, dead husband. After two orgasmic sessions with the studly Lucan, we find Isadora sneaking through secret passages to join him in some satisfying bed action. br / This is a - Yes!, Yes!, Yes!, vs. no, no , no - internal battle that Isadora happily surrenders. Heroines who are slaves to their nerve endings do not supply any sexual tension.br / This is an incredibly predictable read. It was so familiar, I felt like I had already read the book. br / The characters are not sympathetic, the love scenes are uninspired, the world building is cursory and incomplete. Lucan is too perfect to experience any growth. Isadora's character vacillated between willing martyr and angry victim.br / So Big Evil is destroyed, minor evil is vanquished and Good carries the day. Will the Rebels win? Will the witches lose another young husband? Will the infants survive their father? The answers are obvious.br / Not recommended.

I was very well pleased with the way this series played out, the ending was exactly what I was wanting, all the ends neatly tied up.

5 out of 5 stars I AM SO DEPRESSED!!!   November 29, 2007

I am depressed because it is over. I feel like crying. I have enjoyed these three books more than I ever thought I would. Finishing them leaves a hole in me. The Star Witch was an emotional ride. It brought the three sisters' together and united them in a way that concluded their quest for love. This series was SO good, that I think that I am going to read them again. Starting right now!

5 out of 5 stars All three books deserve 5 stars   August 3, 2007

This review will cover my thoughts on all 3 books (yeah.. I'm lazy).br /br /After waiting for almost a week for this 3rd book to arrive, I finally got to finish it last night. I won't go into plot summary since it's already written many times over, but will write about how I feel about this trilogy instead. LWJ was a new author to me and I'm so glad to have 'discovered' her. Each book was written flawlessly with engaging characters, rich setting and excellent world building, exciting plot, and much more. I fell in love with 'The Sun Witch' immediately after I read the first chapter and thought LWJ wouldn't be able to top that. I was wrong. The second and third book were as good, if not better. br /br /I have to admit that of all the 3 sisters, I was least interested in Isadora. She seemed to be so cold, so bitter, basically not sympathetic at all. So I wasn't expecting much when I picked up 'The Star Witch' other than to find out how it ended. Then her character slowly but surely changed in front of my eyes and suddenly I was so engrossed in her story and realized I liked her character best. br /br /The evil emperor's character, Sebastyen, was so complex and layered, I couldn't hate him entirely without feeling sorry for how his story ended, eventhough he's done many many evil things to his people and especially to Liana. And Liana? Well.. she's the real special character in this story. She managed to steal every scene she appeared in all three books. Her relationship with Sebastyen was probably one of the most screwed up relationships I've read in a romance novel, yet interestingly enough, I still wished for a happy ending for both of them. I would love to read more about her.br /br /All in all, it's been a very satisfying read and I can't wait to start reading the story of these sisters' first borns.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Series! Ms. Jones' Voice is Unstoppable!   March 9, 2007

The emotional wealth that lies within a woman does not change when powered by spells and wizardry. Love is no more or no less, it is just that, love. It can create kingdoms and bare fruit, but it can also destroy and corrupt. Behold the magical writing of...The Star Witch!br /br /A boy will grow into a warrior destined to become the Prince of Swords. Trained by a wizard, Lucan has honed his mind and body to master his emotions and the elements around him. He is truly one with his mighty sword! But, he will have to find the Star of Bacwyr, before he can become the Prince of Swords.br /br /It is in this journey to find the Star of Bacwyr that Lucan finds himself taken with the presence of Isadora. She shines with an inner beauty he cannot resist. A woman he does not realize is a witch! Lucan was warned as a young boy to beware of witches. What will happen when these two unite? Is Isadora a good witch or has darkness overtaken her soul? br /br /The Star Witch is the newest release by author Linda Winstead Jones. This is the third book in the trilogy, following in the footsteps of The Moon Witch and The Sun Witch. Ms. Jones wielded the magic in her pen and flung it to the winds, landing back upon the pages, creating a spellbinding story of magical lovers! The premise is so fresh; the angels in heaven might even weep. How refreshing! In a field saturated with middle of the road paranormal novels, this one commands respect and she has this reader's wholeheartedly. The characters are filled with emotional realism and fortitude. It is not enough that this book is exciting to read, but when you cast in an erotic presence - it kicks this tale up to a fever pitch. It is obvious this author put her heart and soul into each and every word.br /br /This book is so well written, it could easily be a stand alone, but from the first page you will be heading out to get the rest of this trilogy.br /br /Isadora is the oldest of the Fyne sisters. A curse has robbed this family of love for three hundred years. It has touched her life by taking her husband, Willym. She has vowed to never love another man like she loved Willym. Isadora is now a prisoner and she is caring for a pampered queen whose husband is cruel and deviant. From the moment she looks upon Lucan her body responds to the sensual creature that he is. His handsome exterior hides the predator and warrior that lurks close to the surface waiting to strike! Yet, when he takes Isadora it is calculated - overtaking her with patience and passion! br /br /The Star Witch is one of the best paranormal novels this reviewer has read this year! This is the type of love story that will mark the reader's souls and stay with them long after the book has closed. There is a lingering essence of a sequel. This reviewer cannot wait for Ms. Jones to pick up the threads to weave another crafted tale of arousing and mystical love. Ms. Jones truly is the mistress of magical wordplay! Do not think or hesitate, just buy! The Star Witch by author Linda Winstead Jones.br /br /Reviewed by Janalee Ruschhaupt, 2007br /br /br /br / br /br / br /
