5 out of 5 stars The most valuable part is   November 13, 2009
Michael Helfer (Santa Ana, CA)
What you learn for yourself, after doing the things described in this book. Don't skip over the beginning and read just the exercises. Understanding the reasoning behind it all is just as important.

I'm now getting clear vision ''flashes'' that last 5 - 10 minutes, seeing stoplights from 3 blocks away in perfect clarity, using my .75 diopter glasses. I started out with 3.00 diopter glasses, and my vision wasn't very clear with those. It's been about 2.5 months since I started the vision exercises, but when the book arrived about a month ago, that's when things REALLY started going well.

Patience and meditation is key. You're learning how to control a part of your body that you don't have control over yet. Become sensitive to what your eyes do.

-Mike

4 out of 5 stars Great book, but not practical if you have to work for a living.   September 13, 2009
-4 and holding (Pheonix, AZ)
Excellent book. Highly recommended. Everything in it is true. I was taken to the "eye doctor" in 1st grade in the 60s and put on a regimen of successfully stronger lenses until I was at -6. I've been able to work myself down to -4 through progressive under correction over the past several years but plateaued there. This book has the information and techniques that I know would help me to break through the -4 barrier - if I had 60 minutes/day to diligently devote to the process. Unfortunately I have a high stress job and many other demands on my time and it is not practical for me to follow this regimen. It is easier for me to put my -4 glasses on and get on with my overscheduled day that I seem to have little control over, as unhappy as I am about it. Perhaps I should buy a book on time management or getting control of your life.

If you want to try these techniques, you need to have someone who will really support you and believe in it as much as you do. I would very much recommend finding someone else in your predicament so that you can work together and hold each other accountable for your progress. Undertaking this journey is like training for a triathlon or scaling Mt. Everest. It can be done, but how many people really achieve it? You have to count the cost before undertaking it.

This book is debunked on several sites as snake oil and quackery, and these sites state that there are no statistically valid tests that have been conducted to prove that it works. This is likely because it would be very difficult to find a sufficiently large enough population that could actually follow this regimen enough to achieve results.

4 out of 5 stars Nothing to lose   April 6, 2009
Sara (Alexandria, VA)
Hi. After reading several of the reviews I decided to get the book and give it a try. I just began the eye exercises today 04/06/09. I will update you my progress next month. I don't have anything to lose for trying; at least I will get information on how to relax my eyes. And if this method works I will improve my vision, which is simply priceless. The current power of my lens is 1.75. I am aiming higher which is to dump my glasses altogether. During the month I will use my glasses only when absolutely necessary, such as driving. I will keep you posted on my progress.

5 out of 5 stars Everything Most Eye Doctors Will Never Tell You   December 4, 2008

Where has this book been for all of my life?

I will spare you my lengthy saga, which began in grade school. The long story short is that I was a classic bookworm. When you use your eyes predominantly at close range, they gradually adapt and change shape. I didn't have bad eyes, rather I had bad habits, and I was not consistently using my eyes at all ranges. Worse yet, I did not have to use my eyes as intended when I was wearing glasses or contacts, therefore my problem compounded.

The cause of astigmatism and the means to correct it is found in this book. Why don't doctors tell us this stuff??? It apparently is too easy and profitable to keep writing stronger and more enabling prescriptions.

In a haphazard way I am incorporating the lessons learned in this book. At a minimum I seem to be arresting the negative direction in which I was headed, and better yet, I do believe that things are sharpening up a bit. If I start applying these exercises in a more methodical and consistent manner, then look out.

For example, my astigmatism was in my left eye, therefore my right eye got used to doing all my close work. Not surprisingly, my right eye adapted to that and was becoming increasingly lazy. I bought an eye patch at the drug store and I am wearing it at home more and more. Now my right eye HAS to work at all distances and cannot AFFORD to be lazy. Who said that eye patches are only for kids?

When you allow your eyes to be lazy - whether through poor habits or reliance on "corrective" lenses - nutrients no longer circulate properly and your eyes become susceptible to disease. That alone is a powerful incentive to make the effort to use your eyes as intended.

I could go on and on, but in a nutshell I feel empowered. For no more effort than I have put into this so far, I am encouraged and I expect to build a lifetime of healthier habits.

Thank God for Steven Beresford and his willingness to blow the whistle on an industry that has failed to educate us and that has mostly allowed us to proceed with unhealthy and potentially blinding practices.

3 out of 5 stars I had a consultation with one of the authors   July 16, 2008

I've been doing eye exercises, including the ones in this book, for about 10 years, and never worn glasses in all that time. The results? My eyesight is better, as determined by optometrists, when I keep up the exercises, considerably better too, but never seems to get beyond a certain limit. I guess the analogy is the guy with a missing leg who does physiotherapy. The physiotherapy helps mobility, but it isn't going to bring back the missing leg. That's basically what I was told when I finally went to see one of the authors of this book for a consultation. His final advice? Laser surgery. Apparently that's a really good option nowadays. So I'll look into it. Good luck folks.
