Product Description
This essential “how not to” guide explains how to act and what to say in the presence of police to minimize the chances of being arrested and to avoid add-on charges—which can often lead to permanent disqualification from jobs, financing, and education. Citizens can learn how to avoid arrest both on the street and when pulled over in a vehicle and are alerted to basic tricks cops use to get people to incriminate themselves. Sprinkled with absurdity and humor, this urgent, eye-opening book is a guide to criminal justice for all Americans.

2 out of 5 stars Highly repetitive   March 2, 2010
scooper47 (New England)
Wow. Good to know this many Amazon users are worried about getting arrested. The authors make three points: 1. Don't do anything illegal. 2. Stay home 3. Hide from the police, and then they repeat them over and over for 282 pages.

It's impossible to figure out for whom this book was written. The authors address petty criminals (the "clueless") who have no other life than crime and drugs. They even state these guys can't read, so what are they doing with this book?

I would like to make it VERY clear that this book offers no advice on talking your way out of a ticket. They want to avoid an escalation of a ticket into an arrest. If you are that dumb, then maybe a night in the slammer would do you some good.

My advice would be to read all the reviews of this book on Amazon. They have everything the book has at a 100% reduction in price.

Oh, and Mssrs. Carson and Denham? Women aren't the only ones who take offense at your sexist representations. "Numerous ex-wives" indeed. Color me shocked.

5 out of 5 stars Information You Need to Know!   February 19, 2010
Bohdi Sanders, Ph.D. (Loveland, CO)
Arrest-Proof Yourself is definitely information that every American needs to be aware of to remain safe in today's climate. As with most things in this life, you see things differently when after you know the inside scoop. Dale Carson gives the reader the inside scoop where law enforcement is concerned in this well-written, informative book on the subject. Although I don't agree with every suggestion that he makes, such as soiling yourself (basically demeaning yourself) in order to avoid arrest, the majority of this book is filled with solid suggestions to keep you out of trouble with the police.

I found the "tally sheet" especially telling. Like so many government organizations, facts and figures play a much great part than common sense, and the this is obviously true even where law enforcement is concerned, at least in many instances. I thought this book was so important and so useful, that I actually required both of my sons to read it as soon as I finished it myself. It is well-written, to the point, frank, and pulls no punches. This is a book that you can't afford not to read. Don't wait until you have to actually deal with the police before you decide to do some research to find out how things actually work. Dale Carson has done the legwork for you; all you have to do is heed his advice, and I highly recommend that you do so. Read this book as soon as possible.

5 out of 5 stars A Preventive Benefit in Life Experience   February 12, 2010
Stephen Kleimeyer
All individuals can benefit by attaining a foundational background in avoiding encounters with the law, whether or not they had prior encounters. This book appeals to everyone's need to be a properly behaving, law abiding citizen in all walks of life, at or away from home, at work, and especially in a motor vehicle.

Some specifics you will learn from the book are proper personal interaction around people, how to maintain proper appearance and attire, what is and is not legal to carry aboard a vehicle, and where you should and should not be with respect to time of day and night. Furthermore, you will learn how to conduct yourself when a law enforcement officer calls on you as a pedestrian, or traffic stops you in your vehicle, and why to act respectfully and submissively in such a situation. The last can mean a major difference between a brush with the law resulting in arrest, or just a warning.

In my opinion this book is especially ideal for parents raising school age children. It is never too soon for young children to learn all proper demeanors and moral values in abidence with the law. The overall background from this book can be a preventive measure in saving the family time, stress, reputation and money.

The advice is useful, but the tone is uhh...pretty condescending towards women. Carson (the writer) assumes that the reader is male throughout the entire book, refers to women as possessions, and generally has very stereotypical opinions about male and female characteristics.. which he then proceeds to shove in the reader's face repeatedly. It's all pretty unnecessary. I wanted straight advice, not an all-too-vivid picture of Carson's personal and political beliefs.

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant until the end...   December 22, 2009

This book is brilliant until near the end. The author's advice to fill in empty spaces of your vehicle with spray-in foam is just plain silly. The idea of having a piece of paper listing, among other things, the names of cops who will vouch for your character seems like a ridiculous thing for an innocent citizen to be carrying around with him. In fact, the ending of the book seems quite the contadiction to the text and premise of the book. You will certainly lose the "average citizen" status when you produce those documents.

It's like a guy I know who is convinced that putting a, "D.A.R.E." sticker on his bumper is a good idea. Why do you want a cop to think, "drugs" while he is driving behind you? It's like thinking that a bumper sticker saying, "I support the police" is going to keep you from being pulled over.

Having said that.... the rest of the information is invaluable to the "miscreant" who has to drive his purchase homne from the dealer, or the person traveling to the social engagement.

This book is a refreshing and fascinating over-view of the U.S. criminal justice INDUSTRY which, for profit, locks up more citizens per capita than any other nation. Read it. Just exercise judgement regarding the lsat little bit.
