Product Description
Dividing an estate fairly may sound easy, but in fact very few people know how to do it. Because of this, an event that should be dedicated to remembering the good times and paying honor to the deceased often becomes a time of strife and divisiveness, resulting in bad feelings that can sometimes last a lifetime. Now, there is a resource that helps to avoid such conflicts. The Settlement Guide provides clear, useful advice about how to divide the family estate of the deceased parents in a fair and peaceful manner.

1 out of 5 stars The Settlement Game: How to Settle an Estate Peacefully and Fairly   June 28, 2009

Hardly worth the read. Basic and repet1tive. Filled with worthless info just to make it long enough to be called a book. Would be better as a magazine article.

3 out of 5 stars Good idea, okay execution   March 5, 2009

The Settlement Game outlines a procedure that most of my family members found helpful. The author's father is way too present in the book and is irrelevant to the book's purpose, but the basic idea is a good one: If you follow these guidelines, the settlement of an estate can be more fair and peaceful. Not a panacea, but it helps.

4 out of 5 stars Great Ideas -- Quick Read -- A bit lite on follow through   November 18, 2008

I am in the middle of trying to settle a modest estate with lots of valuable stuff, house, cars and seven siblings from two marriages. The author does a good job of approaching the subject but doesn't follow through on some items in depth such has how to apply personality types. I found her idea's were very helpful in guiding my plans. You can tell there is considerable reverence for her parents. This would be a great book to give to beneficiaries prior to the division of items to help communicate the process. Not enough depth for executors.

This book along with Grandma's Yellow Pie Plate are a must have if you are involved with an estate of any kind, or planning your own.

These things should be taught in High School.

I am the executor of an estate and needed guidance on an equitable way to distribute my parents assets that were not large value items but also not garage sale or donation items. This book has the best ideas I found and with 4 kids in the family with different personalities and locations, it really worked!
