BBook Description/BBR For the first time in our history, scientists are uncovering astounding medical evidence about dieting--and why so many of us struggle with our weight and the size of our waists. Now researchers are unraveling biological secrets about such things as why you crave chocolate or gorge at buffets or store so much fat. p Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz, America's most trusted doctor team and authors of the bestselling iYOU/i series, are now translating this cutting-edge information to help you shave inches off your waist. They're going to do it by giving you the best weapon against fat: knowledge. By understanding how your body's fat-storing and fat-burning systems work, you're going to learn how to crack the code on true and lifelong waist management. p Roizen and Oz will invigorate you with equal parts information, motivation, and change-your-life action to show you how your brain, stomach, hormones, muscles, heart, genetics, and stress levels all interact biologically to determine if your body is the size of a baseball bat or of a baseball stadium. In iYOU: On a Diet/i, Roizen and Oz will redefine what a healthy figure is, then take you through an under-the skin tour of the organs that influence your body's size and its health. You'll even be convinced that the key number to fixate on is not your weight, but your waist size, which best indicates the medical risks of storing too much fat. p Because the world has almost as many diet plans as it has e-mail spammers, you'd think that just about all of us would know everything there is to know about dieting, about fat, and about the reasons why our bellies have grown so large. iYOU: On a Diet/i is much more than a diet plan or a series of instructions and guidelines or a faddish berries-only eating plan. It's a complete manual for waist management. It will show you how to achieve and maintain an ideal and healthy body size by providing a lexicon according to which any weight-loss system can be explained. iYOU: On a Diet/i will serve as the operating system that facilitates future evolution in our dieting software. After you learn about the biology of your body and the biology and psychology of fat, you'll be given the iYOU/i Diet and iYOU/i Workout. Both are easy to learn, follow, and maintain. Following a two-week rebooting program will help you lose up to two inches from your waist right from the start. p With Roizen and Oz's signature accessibility, wit, and humor, iYOU: On a Diet--The Owner's Manual for Waist Management/i will revolutionize the way you think about yourself and the food you consume, so that you'll diet smart, not hard. 4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!... but fat jokes just aren't funny.   January 5, 2009
Although I appreciated the detailed research, thorough explanations, and carefully broken-down science of this book, I did NOT appreciate the "cutesy" humor that barely masked itself as grade-school-style fat jokes. Size discrimination is never funny, and neither are jokes made at the expense of someone's physical appearance - whether it's based on their size, color, or gender. This book was so wonderful and so needed; too bad I had to deduct a big FAT yellow star because of the unneccessary fat humor that didn't make me laugh.

5 out of 5 stars Must read for everyone   December 28, 2008
Love this book. Roisen and Oz make their books easy to understand and read. Lots of great information on all around health. They explain how things effect your body and how to be healthy. They add humor to make it interesting. A great read!!

4 out of 5 stars Simply put, it works   December 23, 2008
This book is the first I read in Oz and Roizen's YOU series. I have since been hooked and have enjoyed all of their books and specials on the Discovery Health network.br /br /Practical and effective advice fills the pages of this book. The authors include detailed information on how the body works as it relates to satiety, storing fat, burning fat, good and bad foods, and why being overweight is so very unhealthy. Even readers who are not interested in the "why" and medical jargon can benefit from the advice. The book is written in a friendly accessible style that makes it an enjoyable read. Although the humor is a bit corny at times, you won't be able to hold back a smile.br /br /By applying the principals and useful tips in this book I have lost 65 pounds, improved my cholesterol levels to "excellent" in all categories, and dropped my blood pressure numbers to that of a teenager. This was possible without going on a restrictive or bland diet. In fact, I ate cookies, cake, fried chicken, and drank non-diet soda (in moderation) while still losing weight. It doesn't have to be difficult!br /br /Let Oz and Roizen help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight without going hungry or depriving yourself of your favorite foods. Don't let previous failures discourage you from buying this book. Diets will always fail and this book even explains why. Changing your diet and implementing practical techniques will result in success. YOU can do it!

5 out of 5 stars Buy this book if you want to learn about you.   December 12, 2008

This is a great book. It isn't a diet book exactly - It teaches you what food does when it goes into your body. It teaches you what the best foods are for you. It talks about why you need to be healthy. Recipes, excercise, seriously helpful recommendations.

5 out of 5 stars A fun and extremely informative book   November 30, 2008

This fun and extremely informative book is an owner's manual for the human waist, that flabby bit that, for most of us, arrives everywhere first, making a big impression. The two medical researchers who wrote this book give you an in-depth look at you, food and weight. They take you on a tour of hunger, how you digest food, why you get fat, the effects of being fat, and what you can and should (and should not!) do to lose weight.br /br /Overall, I found this to be a fascinatingly informative book. I really enjoyed the authors' description of how your hunger and digestive systems work (the two are not the same, though they do overlap), and their advice on losing inches off of your waist (which is much more important than simply losing pounds). The authors take a fun, sometimes whimsical, style, which kept the book from being too heavy...and I do like a bit of fun.br /br /I found the advice to be mostly common sense, and non-radical, which I like. I fear diets in which the authors tell you to do things that seem strangely out of balance with the way humans have always lived. So, if you are interested in learning why the pounds are so hard to remove, and want a no-nonsense plan for getting thinner, then get this book. I highly recommend it!
